Forums - Sony Discussion - Valve likely to do PS3! 'down the road'

They design their games for the PC first, something I appreciate greatly.

It seems that they port to the XBOX360 because it is similar to PC and easy to port the code over.

PS3, however, is harder to program for and much more different than the PC than the XBOX360 is. People say they are laze, but it is a cost vs. benefit consideration they are taking into account. Either they see to cost for porting their games to the PS3 is more than their projected revinue from it or they have all their work force working on more profitable projects.

Hmm. . . interesting, but how do you REALLY feel?

"""Until we have the ability to get a PS3 team together, until we find the people who want to come to Valve or who are at Valve who want to work on that, I don't really see us moving to that platform. We've kind of learned a lesson in that again, if we were customers of that product on PlayStation, we'd feel like we sort of got the stepchild version of the product while the guys on the PC and the 360 got the sweet version of [The Orange Box]."""

I'm sorry but that quote is at least a year old... I recall the exact same reason being stated by valve last year in an interview...

that or it's their official line that they say every time they have the PS3 questio...

edit: or nevermind.... "His comments echo those of Valve marketing man Doug Lombardi, who told us last year:" that is what I get for skiming throught the text :p

That is how I feel. Valve games would have been great if they actually released anything for the PS3 over the past few years, but now I don't want their shit.

I've got Uncharted 2, MAG, White Knight Chronicles, Yakuza 3 (maybe 4 sometime next year), ModNation Racers, LittleBigPlanet, God of War III and Dragon Age to take up my time. With countless more on the way.

Has Valve created anything other than FPS? Because if they haven't, they might as well stay where they are and just produce for the 360/PC audience. The market is so saturated with FPS now a days, but they seem to not run out of steam on the 360/PC. I have only played Half-Life One on PC and it was an okay game. I appreciated that it's engine was used to make Counter-Strike which turned me to a complete addict, but my addiction died after I got over Counter-Strike.

I wonder if developers are finding value to PS3's lack of pirated software? I can go to craigslist and find tones of pirated Xbox360 games for sale for $5 dollars; not to mention how easily it is to download PC games and crack them.

I don't think valve should do anything for PS3. Its pretty much a dead end just like Newell said.

What games exactly do they have which I can't play on my pc?

What in the world does this have to do with the thread? O_o

Well I can't see valve bringing out an exclusive for the ps3 so if they brought out a game it would prob be on the pc already

Screw Valve. Possibly the laziest devs out there. Can't port for sh*t, and then claim the PS3 is unusable. Sorry guys, looks like you'll have to pull your finger out your ass and actually make a new engine, god forbid.

This only means Sony is not there yet. Would have been odd if they had said "never again".
