Secondly, why the hell would you do that? In case of theft? There are better measures against that - a simple password would suffice.

For all I care they can sue the school into the ground hopefully preventing this to ever happen again.

Yeah, there's that too! What school gives a laptop to 1800 children? Spend that funds on better books, teachers, educational purposes. Everythime I hear yammering from the US considering the schooling it's because there's no money for teachers or proper materials. Fix that first!

Nice about NY though, didn't know that (which is probably not surprising)
