Assassin’s Creed 2 PC DRM Crosses the Line

If you were planning on playing Assassin’s Creed 2 on PC, but have an Xbox 360 or PS3, you might want to reconsider.  Why you ask?  Well, to simply play the game, you must maintain a constant connection to the internet and Ubisoft’s online server.  That’s right, you cannot play the game unless you are online.  If you lost connection for even a second, you are kicked out of the game and lose all unsaved progress.  Oh, and if for some reason Ubisoft’s server goes down, you’re screwed too.  The requirement isn’t just for Assassin’s Creed 2, as Ubisoft plans to implement it for more of their PC games in the future.

While this directly attacks piracy, it also attacks the people who paid for the game legitimately.  People who bought the game are being punished, which is just plain wrong.  If I bought the game at retail, I should be able to play it whenever and wherever I want, and requiring an internet connection is absurd.
