Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does a game become more popular if it's exclusive or multiplat?

Depends on the title.

I think Valkyria Chronicles benefited from being Exclusive and Tekken 6 suffered because of it. On the other hand if Guitar Hero stayed exclusive it would have suffered.

Miserably said, if anything its the other way around.. Tekken 6 suffered of becoming multiplat as it lost the little hype that was coming for it..

VC is mainly sold because of word of mouth... people still say its good so people will keep buying it.

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

Sorry I should have been more clear. Tekken 6 suffered from becoming Multiplat. Do you think VC would have gotten the same amount of attention if it had been multiplat? I doubt it. There are tons of good multiplat games that sold horribly.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Who can tell? There are exceptions to every rule. Some games (Tekken 6) were big names and flopped when they went multi-plat. Other games were exclusive AND hyped and flopped, too (Too Human). There's no way to tell. Dead Rising, Saints Row, Lost Planet, BioShock --they've been pretty successful as exclusive franchises. Even if they were multi-platform, they would be or have been hit games. Ninja Blade and Lair were exclusive, but nobody gave those games a second look.

The biggest factor is quality, I guess. If Call of Duty is a good exclusive, it would be a good multi-plat. At the same time, I don't think inFamous or some other games would have gotten as much attention if it weren't exclusive.

What I'm trying to say is, I have absolutely no idea.
