Forums - Gaming Discussion - Will all FPS games use motion controls next generation?

It seems like Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft are taking steps toward motion controllers. The wii's main controller is motion control and sony releasing their motion controller soon, it seems like soon enough the most popular genres in gaming will take the same approach next generation. This brings me to FPS. FPS is one of the most popular genres in gaming due to its popularity with online gaming.

Is it possible that popular FPS series like Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Gears of War or Mass Effect use motion controls like Natal next generation?

What FPS on Wii uses motion control? None, aside from Red Steel for sword fighting.

IR makes FPS great on Wii not motion and neither Arc nor Natal incorporate IR

@gamerace

thats nuts, i had no idea the arc has no ir

sigggghhhhhhhh

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Wii Friend Code: 4094-4604-1880-6889

I was talking about the 8th generation. I'm just wondering what direction FPS games are going to take in the 8th generation of gaming.

It's used now for gunbutts and grenades in Wii and PS3 games (at least it was in PS3 games) and some other minor things but motion really adds little to FPS.

However, true 1:1 could be used for the energy blades in Halo, and swords and melee weapons in other FPS but that's just a little fringe thing.

I don't thing motion will really change FPS anymore than what we're currently seeing on Wii, which, minus IR, is minor.   If PS4/720 also have IR pointing then it'd be like CoD:MWR in HD which is only a good thing, but a lot of people will stick to their dual analogs because they'll be better with them than actual aiming.

They can do something close enough, hence RE5:AE.

In answer to what I think the OP really meant though, yes, I do think this is the last gen where dual analog will be standard for shooters. In fact, it's the last gen where the gamepad will be standard in general.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I hope so!

i hope so...or at least IR for aiming

Good gods I hope not!

Off Topic: Snake, is 612 your area code? If so you probably don't live all that far from me.

All consoles will have a 'pointer' option. IR, mouse, whatever.
