Think these numbers are further proof for my theory that we are going to see a almost exact replica of 2008. Where PS3 was in front of 360 ww until 2nd half of year.
If we look at the same month sales in 08 we see PS3 sold 160k ww. For US it sold 78k that week 22k in Japan and 60k in europe. An almost exact mirror image for this weeks numbers. We are yet to get europes numbers this week but last week they sold 60k so if we assume they sell the same this week. What is more interesting is the sales gape then was 45k. I think this time the gap will be smaller.

Funny how history repeats itself isn't it.

sorry i meant 60k in the week in 2008 in europe. Assume this week it sells around that mark and we have pretty much the same figures from 08.

February 2008 was 2 years ago

..... Read above

IF in europe this week sells around 60k PS3's it will be a mirror image sales wise of what happened in 2008. That was the new year after the last PS3 price cut. Just as 2010 is the 1st new year after the last price cut.

However this time around the gap between the two consoles is smaller. Back then it was 45k. Right now it is 10k (until europe numbers are in).

I'm of the opinion that the PS3 could very well have a shortage. The Slim version hasn't been out for very long and sold a huge amount last year, most likely depleting most if not all of Sony's stockpile and you can't just suddenly conjure up more out of nothing.

People are making it out to be impossible, the Wii is seeing shortages after months of lower than expected sales followed by a flash in the pan so it's very likely that a refreshed system launching to record high sales (for the console itself) and for an extended period of time exceeded Sony's expectations considerably and thus said console is in short supply.

Overall sales seem good except for the PSP so PSP2 at E3 this year is pretty much confirmed at this point.

I agree. One thing I don't understand though, is how hardware sales even keep increasing like this in this type of year. The shortage from holidays is the only explanation; the sales we see now are the stabilized levels. The PS3 will definitely end its shortage before the Wii though. New Super Mario Bros. Wii is consistently selling 100k+ every week and seems like it will all year, causing demand to slightly outpace production.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Well, quote dropped the other half of your post (due to HTML reading), but either way, it's really a statistical tie, as it's well within the margin of error. (And even still, being excited about a ~2000 unit difference really isn't much.) And yes, before you ask, I would have the same blasé reaction if it were the other way.

As for the shortages which are mentioned further down, to my understanding, there are zones where the PS3 is in short supply still, though it seems to be mostly recovered at this point. (Though 250s seem to be easy to get.) The Wii is in the opposite situation- a few areas with plentiful stock, but an overall shortage across the board. Yes, Sony will get it resolved before Nintendo; I think Sony will be resolved in another week or 2, while Nintendo may take until mid-late March. (And then let's hope tax season depletes everyone again, so we can repeat the cycle!)

There is no major PS3 shortage, stop running damage control guys. The PS3 sales aren't bad to say the US is it's weakest region against both the Wii and 360. Wonder if the 360 will drop next week to around the same level as the PS3 as the ME2 boost wears off. MAG did nothing it would seem in terms of shifting significant hardware.
