Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Nintendo having a summit to counter MS's X10?

Well maybe. But my main guess is they have a few big spring/summer titles to release and they just want to continue the hype train. So having this and GDC to keep it progressively going. My guess is for Sin and Punishment 2, Monster Hunter 3, Metroid:Other M, Last Story, and Xenoblade. Then at E3 they'll get into things like Galaxy 2, Zelda Wii, and other projects for late 2010 and 2011. Also some more hype for Heartgold/SoulSilver before it comes out.

I mean it is possible they just want to have something to one up X10, but I think it is more of a marketing strategy for the titles than anything.

If Nintendo was really fearing X10, they would have just announced something during the same time frame. Chances are they have something very important to announce.

Nintendo announced it last minute because that's what they do. They've got stuff coming out, and want to talk about it.

When Nintendo wants to react directly, you'll know (like when they announced the price drop officially during Sony's TGS)

@Demotruk: Actually not, the Wii has been on decline for the past 2 weeks, compared to its performance of last year. Perhaps they are having this summit to reinvigorate the confidence of their investors.

But you know, VS wasn't announced to please investors. It was announced because they wanted to remain competitive in the innovations field. They were supposed to demonstrate Wii M+ last year, VS was a peripheral that was going to be shown this year. Why even show something you will not show again until you attend to the next show next year? Makes no sense.

There are shortages, demand has been above supply so the last couple of weeks have not been reflective of demand. It's after January weeks which were up YoY running through stock so I'll be more concerned if it continues to be down when they get the shortages under control.

I do think revealing it was a dumb move, because it gives too much info to the competition, but it does have a logic to it. Investors may have been worried that Nintendo had lost the path, they hadn't released any majorly successful Blue Ocean Software since early 2008 and hadn't shown any signs of new ones. It probably didn't convince investors but at least you can see the reasoning. Of course, that is basically what you've said, since 'competitive in the innovations field' is very much an investor concern and not so much a gamer concern. However, suggesting that it was to compete with the hype of Natal or Arc doesn't make sense, unless you are simply supposing that Nintendo are stupid. They couldn't possibly have expected it to generate excitement among customers, they didn't even show a tech demonstration let alone appealing software.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Nintendo always holds some sort of press event in Q1 every year. I remember getting all excited for numerous Nintendo press events last year just to leave the forums and newsites dissapointed. Do I think Nintendo will reveal anything ground breaking at this summit? No I don't. What could be at this summit MarioGalaxy2,MetroidOtherM our first fresh look at Kirby Wii which is slated for release this year according to an Nintendo Japan press release.

I think Nintendo might show off some of its already announced software, maybe even show us Pikmin3 which was announced in 09. But I don't expect to see a new hardware unvieling or franchise unvieling. So that means probubly no Legend Of Zelda!

Both X10 and the Nintendo Summit are because the parent companies want to show us games and make announcements. And that kind of thing takes a lot longer to put together.

This is definitely an entirely separately planned event.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

This event will be the official unveiling of the entire games line up until E3.

They're having the event because they need a place to demo their new games to the press. It could also have one or two new announcements that they have decided would be better served at their own event or that they didn't want to cram into their E3 press conference due to having other stuff to show then. We'll see soon enough but I wouldn't be expecting megatons.

They were going to do this in the fall, but I guess it got delayed until a time when the momentum was back with them
