HW is a given, SW is a stretch. Historically portables don't sell games as much as home consoles do.

Extra impressive considering the annual sports titles don't hit the million mark. Some consoles get a guaranteed extra couple of million sellers each year from the likes of Madden, PES, Fifa and some others.

Historically there's no other portable platform that peaks in it's 5th year on the market and that happened in the USA.

The DS is a monster. Just count it's 10M+ plus seller and PS2's ones.

I think SW will slowly surpass PS2 and go further. DS SW will be around for many years.

Historically?  Historically there was only one major handheld player on the market to begin with.  Things like Gamegear, Neo Geo Pocket, Wonderswan and etc couldn't even compare to Game Boy.  Now in this generation, its been a complete reversal, where we're seeing console sales deminishing (aside from key titles) and handheld sales seeing MASSIVE increases (accross even 'casual' titles).

This generation there is no 'PS2' for consoles, while the DS is surpassing most past consoles in both Hardware and Software.  The only console for DS to surpass is PS2.

^PS2 SW at 1500M as of now. DS attach rate is little over 5.5 according to Nintendo, might end up above 6 when HW will go down and SW sales will be steady for awhile. But even with massive install base of 180-200M units it'll be way off PS2 SW mark.

DS is at 500milj software sales
PS2 is at 1500milj software sales
DS will not surpas PS2 SW. Wii has chance.

I'm with Iwata, DS software will be strong if they can manage to create another "social phenomenon" again, like Nintendogs, Brain Training, Mario Kart or NSMB.
