Looks like a solid game, not an incredible game as the hype suggested but an enjoyable game.

Hype never really suggests anything. It's all in the mind.

That said, considering the fact that Famitsu readers still voted it best game of all time recently, I think its safe to say its a very good game albeit not for everybody

Well, looks like japanese players have some complaints about the game:

This is a map for the first six hours:

But yeah, I agree that hype never suggests anything, I take back what I said.

All games have flaws. The difference is what said flaw means to said player. No towns sounds like not much of a big deal to me but to others, it means a terrible RPG. With that said, the vast majority of the Japanese must have enjoyed it despite its flaws for it to win such an award as "best game of all time".

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

I see nothing wrong with the map for the first 6 hours. As long as the story is interesting and the battle system is interesting. I am all set.

I actually prefer linear games.

Yes but I prefer to consider the western reviews, since I don't know how many people voted for "best game of all time".

Also, linearity isn't the big problem of FFXIII (at least not for me), you will find some complaints about the game in the second link.

@Wagram

Well, I think my post is valid for you too.

I would not take what Sankakucomplex says seriously since most that come from them, except their porn, when it comes to gaming is only meant to be negative. And honestly a straight path is no different from a snake, zigzag or circle form path in disguise. In the end in a lot of game you find yourself going from point A to B. The only difference with this game is that it was promoted for a long time and it has Final Fantasy in the title.

Hmm...some real concerns in that second link but it's FF so I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. I loved FFXII despite the naysayers so here's to hoping I enjoy FFXIII as well. The biggest issue listed to me would be "only 2 stats". I dont know how an RPG could work with just that but guess I'll find out in a few weeks.

Yes, but you will have more places to explore (more places to find items, talk with NPCs, make side quests like when people ask you to deliver an item and you have to explore the local until you find the right place, etc). If you have a straight path you will be guided from the point A to B and that's not what you can call exploration. However, my problem with FFXIII isn't the linearity (as I said before).

But now that you explained more about Sankakucomplex, I will just forget about that link.

I read that list. Alot of the things mentioned seem over exaggerated. Especially about the one that says all you need to do to win is spam attack. That is not what I have been hearing. If you just spam attack you are screwed. Especially later on in the game.

Yup, it's Final Fantasy after all. No matter how many "bad" (subjective) things we will find about this game on the internet, I will buy it. This would be the biggest issue to me: "Your party is completely healed after each battle".

@Wagram

Yeah, I doubt he finished the game.
