Forums - Sony - Sony is putting out a $200 3-d player

Sony is obviously doing some aggressive pricing w/ its new players but it is obvious that they wouldnt be more than $50-75 than a similar Blu-ray player that doesn't have 3-d.  Anyway, here is link to the article, below

It seems a little to soon to buy a 3D blu-ray player right now.
We still don't know what type of 3D technology will be used on TVs in the future and we don't know which blu-ray discs will support it.

have to wait and see whats the tv prices

I think that's going to be the big stopping thing, i'd imagine that it could bring tv prices up quite a  bit, mabey 75 , 100 or 200 dollars if you have a big top of the line kind of TV

why would you buy one now when there aren't even many 3D movies out.

Sure.  But this post is more about sony's progress in a company wide effort.  I just want them to see Sony pull if off, and to see what they can do when most of its divisions work together to benefit Sony instead of the silos and isolated-no cooperation kind of effort that its divisions are known for.

Nice good price to push the technology.

You could wait for this player...

Or if you own a decent computer and a video card you can purchase this...

and get Cyberlink power DVD software with the 3D patch which is coming.

Bluray is becoming cheap(er)...I saw 15 blanks disks for 25 bucks the other day.

Can't the PS3 slim be upgraded via firmware for 3D? If so, I'm good. :)

All I need to do is wait a year for 3D TVs to stabilize and become more common. Preferably the ones that will utilize the passive 3D system so I can use the cheaper glasses.

Yeah PS3 is getting the upgrade so you should be good.

However IMO the best 3D TV you will be able to buy for atleast another 2-3 years has been available since 2008. Mitsubishi DLP line and Laserview laser TV come to mind... Great LCDs have response time of 3m sand image ghosting free 3D gaming is only possible when you don't have response time to worry about.
