Forums - Gaming - Pachter Predicts Motion Control Winner!

The Wedbush Securities analyst has assessed the factors that could tip the balance in the upcoming console motion control war

"The key to success with a retrofitted motion controller is penetration," Pachter told NowGamer. "If price points are high, it is unlikely that Natal or Sony’s motion controller will sell many units; if they are very low, they will sell a lot more. Without a meaningful installed base of consoles with the new motion controllers, developers will not be able to cost justify development of games that require motion control.  Therefore, it’s a chicken and egg problem."

“My uninformed opinion is that Microsoft will price relatively low, and Sony will price higher”

Both Project Natal and Sony's equivalent system, codenamed Arc, are set to appear in time for the holiday season. "My uninformed opinion is that Microsoft will price relatively low (around $50), and Sony will price higher (around $100), and that suggests that Microsoft will have greater success.  If my assumed price points are off the mark, the outcome will be different," the analyst added. Project Natal's price point was previously speculated on when it was alleged that Microsoft's launch plans for the system were leaked...

I just realized one reason why Natal will be the better peripheral.

1 camera = 1 price for multiple players

With the Sony wand, you have to pay for not only the camera and the device, but you have to pay for extra wands too.

Currently playing: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, NBA2k11, Metal Gear Solid, Picross 3d

So he basically says who ever has the lower price will win.... a true prophet that Pachter!

Will the outcome be decided by the price of the addons? I'd say so.

How is this man still employed?

what does he exactly mean with "uniformed opinion"? they call that "a guess", I think?

Microsoft charges $100 for a Wifi adapter and his guess is they'll charge $50 for a device that's supposed to be breakthrough technology? lol OK, if you say so pal!

He has something that looks kinda like this:

Nothing else matters when you have those.

i really don't know....

$100 for the PSMotionController and $50 for natal? nah...why?

because the Pseye it's being give as a gift along with some games (Eyepet+Camera = $60) besides, the development cost of the PSEye can't be more than $20...since it's a technology from 2005/2006 and the development cost should be really low.

and the motion controller should be $50 like a normal controller, but i think we'll see some bundles like Arc+PsEye = $60 & 2x Arc+PsEye = $90/100

And Natal will cost more than $50...the normal camera right now costs $50 and the Wi-fi Antenna costs $100 so it's not crazy to say that Natal will cost $100...

I'm Back! - Proud owner of the best doomed handheld of all time!

son'y controller will take the win cuz it will get mass ports from the wii and natal will get the hands free version of all those ports which many won't like but i do think natal will get 1 or 2 games that'll make everyone go O.O! and have them buy it along with the xbox 360 UI controls with ur hands which will get a lot of attention. But buying wands + camera... sony will have to be smart about that. Hopefully they are working on something proper over there at headquarters :/ lol

Surely software will be the deciding factor (unless one has a price that even great software won't save)?

Software is what will make people want the device, price is simply a barrier that can be bigger or smaller but it won't create the desire in the customer in the first place that a Killer-App will.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
