The reason the graphics may not seem good is because the better they are, the more you notice the flaws. As graphics get better, this will happen more and more. For example, I was playing Uncharted 2 and saw a texture that was bad. Because the others were so great, this texture looked even worse than normal. If I had seen that texture in many other games, I wouldn't have even noticed it. Same thing goes with story. The Mass Effect universe is so well put togther, the parts that aren't as fleshed out seem worse than they really are.
