Gamers say they want original IP's, but hardly support any new IP's. |
Yeah sad isnt it.

Probably because if he included that he would be detracting from what he considers one of the strongest cornerstones of the "3rd party core games don't sell on the Wii" argument. After all it has always a strong effect to say "look at dead space extraction - very good reviews yet only 9000 copies sold". So god forbid one should waste this in an "EA makes games people don't want" argument. |
Seriously, this. Patcher's cognitive dissonance constantly floors me.

Yeah especially when someone agreeing with it has Modern Warfare, KZ2, MGS4, Ratchet, Resistance 2 and Uncharted 2 show in their collection ;)

No amount of quality will compensate for a type of game that people don't want to play. Take Brutal Legend for example. The game is high quality in what it does. However, WHAT it did turned me off. I do NOT want to do a rhythm mini-game in order to issue order to my troops in the game. Can ANYONE here explain why doing this in an RTS part of a game is a great idea? What does it add to the game, except annoyance when you are trying to fight a battle? I don't see Patton or any other general playing a musical piece when ordering troops. |
Well patapon wasn't that bad.

One of the core differences between investing and gambling is diversification; and EA (like most western publishers) has done a very poor job diversifying their investments. While it would be difficult to achieve the ideal, a well balanced portfolio of games should result in a line-up where every platform represented a small portion of the total publisher’s sales; and every genre represented a small portion of the total sales on each platform.
When the bulk of your resources are allocated to a small set of genres where most of the games will be released to a small number of platforms you're setting yourself up for a fall when you make a mistake.

There is very little originality about Dead Space, but Mirrors Edge gets them A- for trying.
Even Brutal Legend is pretty original.
Well they told UFC that the market for a UFC game wasn't there.. and look how that turned out.
