Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 less impressive with Tversity than Xbox360?

Dear all,

I just bought a PS3 and have to say that I really liked it so far. I enjoyed Heavenly Creatures a lot and Uncharted 2 is also a superb game without a doubt. I was a little dissapointed of Killzone 2 though, as it doesn´t look as good on my 50" SAMSUNG Plasma TV as I thought it would. Modern Warfare 2 looks more appealing from my point of view.

Anyway. I also own a Xbox360 and used it as a mediaserver with Tversity. As I have a really old model (even without hdmi) I wanted to use the PS3 instead. So I hooked it up to my wired network and it is working without any problems. The big problem though, is that the picture quality of the streamed videos is much worse than with the Xbox360.

Both consoles are connected to the network via cable, the PS3 is connected to the TV via hdmi, the Xbox360 via VGA cable. The settings in Tversity are the same for both consoles. So why does the Xbox360 produces a much better picture?

Thanks for your help!

Can't you fiddle in the options somewhere, saying it has to upscale?

Turn on the super white and RBG from ps3 and just tweak it.

Thanks, I will try. It looks like the PS3 does a additonal compression, as there are a lot more artefacts and the picture is more blury. Still don´t understand, why a xbox360 which is three years old produces better imagequality out of the box then the latest PS3 model.

I whished my old Xbox1 was able to handle hd material. Xbmc is so much nicer!

That's rather an old movie by Peter Jackson. What makes you mention this? Or did you mean to say Heavenly Sword?

I liked both (and both had effects worked on by Weta digital), so whichever you meant you have good taste in movies / games.

PS3 Mediaserver is much simpler and much better

I juse use my usb key and copy movies on it and watch on ps3

fiddle with the PS3s video options.. see if that helps

I don't have Tversity so I don't know though

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

i use Pse media server. its java

but does a better work than tversity.

and there are not diffence in quality in the 360 or the ps3 just the programs maybe work different with 2, it maybe even a bug.

ps3 it's even better since its fully divx certificated.

there are 2 ways, streaming and convert and stream
the second results in lower qualtity video, tweak the setting it's forced compression

or PS3 color profile its set to full and super white (HDMI) set on.

I have both, the PS3 is hooked up in the living room for media streaming purposes, and the xbox 360 is in my bedroom used for the same purpose. The living room is 52" and the bedroom is 42" I agree, the TVersity on the PS3 seems more buggy and doesnt perform aswell, I have no idea why, tweaked a zillion settings. The regular streaming performs far better on the PS3 than the TVersity, but I agree regardless if its TVersity or the regular streaming function, I think the quality on the xbox 360 is better, its far quicker and more responsive. Both are connected via WiFi and both on HDMI. I tried switching the systems around, and its the same story, so I dnt think its the Tvs. Both are Sony Bravias. Beats me why theres a difference?

On another note, why would anyone be crazy enough to invest in an Apple TV?
