As a HUGE fan of both series, I must say, it's not even close. Uncharted 2 is superior in almost every regard imo. Graphics, story, gameplay, characters, environments, Voice Acting, pacing, etc. And it has the added bonus of not being overly macho and cheesey. Don't get me wrong, that's why I love the series but it keeps me from taking the series seriously. I can't say much about the online components because while I've poured plenty of time in Uncharted 2's mp, Gears 2 mp was absolutely broken for the entire period that I cared to play it. I loved the MP from 1 though. But I'd say I would probably enjoy Uncharted 2's more because it's not all elemination modes and because of the host of unlockables that can keep you satisfied unlocking things for a while. If Gears doesn't take the MP crown I really can't see it being better at anything else. Still Gears is one of my favorite games of this generation, but Uncharted 2 is tied with MGS4 as my favorite.

On topic: I played neither of these games. But I did play the first of each(Didn't care for either of them, but that is beside the point). But I would have to say Gears 2. Full splitscreen co-op, great online, and horde mode all make the game funner imo

I really like them both, but if you had to compare Uncharted 2 has better SP campaign, more charming characters (I like charming characters), better graphics and better voice acting.

MP is about same on both I think, with Gears 2 perhaps having an edge there.

Also, I prefer Indy type characters and settings to space marines in the end.

How can you be a space marine if you have never been into space? =P

make that 'failed Space Marines' as they don't even get into space!

more seriously, they're designed on the classic space marine mould from Aliens, which, much as I love that film, is a character sterotype used way, way, way, way, wayyyy, too much in videogames (to paraphrase Sam Bell)... so I think of them as generic space marines whether in space or not.

I say Gears of War 2. Local play + tighter gameplay = replayability. Uncharted 2 is just a once or twice through affair whilst Gears 2 is a gift which keeps on giving.

Of course gears 2 its a 360 exclusive for crist sake....=.=

Ohh btw it doesn't matter if Uncharted 2 not only scored higher and won over 100 GOTY 2010, Gears is still better....=.=

Gears 2, mainly because it had over 100 hours of gaming from me where as Uncharted 2 was done after about 35 and I may only replay again for a run through refresher before a third game.

Uncharted 2 has a great story that is well placed and is arguably the best game on the PS3 so it is a must buy game for the platform for any shooter fan.

Gears 2 has an entertaining story albeit it cfull of cliches. The extra bonus of being able to play the campaign in coop both on and offline is a big plus especially when you raise the difficulty. The online aspect of Gears 2 is leagues ahead of Uncharted 2 provided you get a good host, this is the only downfall in that around half the games you get, will require different tactics to cope with the lag. Once you have the Gears bug though and a few mates to go hunting with, it's simply amazing (then there is horde mode). Gears does require you to put in a lot of time to hold your own in games so its online is definately not a dip in and play occasionally imo.

Ultimately both are great games but it depends on what sort of game you want as although similar in genre the gameplay is vastly different. I don't think buying one or the other will ever be a wrong decision, preferably buy both though, especially given how cheap you can get Gears 2 for now.

I beat Gears 2 twice and actually played multiplayer. I beat U2 once and haven't touched multiplayer (but dammit, I intend to!!).
