The problem is that we can't compare this situation to what we saw in this thread. Nuts & Bolts has nothing to do with the old games.

You said "and every Mario game sucks compared to Super Mario World" and that's not a good comparison. guiduc probably said that Nuts & Bolts sucks compared to the n64 games because it doesn't have what made the series popular and every mario (3D or 2D) has some elements from other mario games (respecting the fanbase) and it's always bringing what made the series popular (even if it's just enemies, moves, power ups and other small elements), Nuts & Bolts simply has nothing to make the fans of the first games happy because there is nothing to make you remember of the first games (except for the characters and the frustration that will make you think "oh god, I wanted to play a true sequel or at least something similar to Banjo Kazooie/Banjo Tooie"). I am not saying it's a bad game but there is nothing to satisfy fans who wanted something similar to the first games (and you can't say the same thing about Mario).

Well a game like Mario 64 doesn't exactly have what made the classic Mario games popular. In fact, there are plenty of Mario games that don't "have what made the series popular." But they tried something different and a lot of people liked it. But that hardly means every long time Mario fan enjoyed it.

With that same token Banjo N&B tried something new and it received generally favorable reviews with fair sales. Maybe the next Banjo will be the true successor fans want, but this was a good game nevertheless. And its not the first time we've seen a franchise be used for something different.

Mario 64 has some elements that made the mario games popular (some enemies like Bowser and Goomba, save the princess, some moves, small elements like coins, power ups etc).

The problem is that Rare actually tried to make another platform game and not a racing game or something different from a platform game, so there will be comparisons, since it's a platform game just like Banjo Kazooie.

I am talking about an objective like save Banjo's sister, something to complement or form a storyline. Nuts and Bolts is just a casual game where you build vehicles and you complete the game just to complete the game, that's the problem. There is nothing solid to make you finish the game.

N&B isn't unique, you can build vehicles in games like Little Big Planet.

Right, its a casual game. That's all its supposed to be. Which is why I'm annoyed when everyone compares it to previous Banjo games.

Okay, both Banjo and LBP are unique. That just means they are something different, not completely original.

Why? People will compare it because it's a platform game, if it was a racing game nobody would say "hey, where are the old elements that made me play a 3D platform Banjo game in the first place? Why did they changed so many things?".

Well they changed so many things... because its a different game.

People forget this.

Yes, New Super Mario Bros Wii is a different game (Mario World and NSMBW aren't the same game) but people will compare because both games are 2D platform Mario games (and you can say the same thing for Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy, except that they are 3D)

Just like N&B and Banjo Kazooie are 3D platform Banjo games.

They just mess with the good old formula that made the series so attractive, unlike Mario.

I really was looking for that game on the 360. When I saw the vehicles, and how this idiot L.O.G thing appeared, I didn't even want to look for it. You know what people like of that game? The music. Many themes from the two previous games. The characters. I think, with only two predecessors, the game should have stayed to its roots. The franchise is not so well implemented to make drastic changes like that.

2D Mario, on the other side, would need some changes.

Oh my god. The memories.

Was my favorite game on N64.

Click Clock Woods (collecting caterpillars for the bird)
Freezy Peak (the polar bear race! and Xmas tree!)
Clankers Cavern (took me ages to figure out you could go inside him lol)
Bubble Gloop Swap (being a croc was awesome)
Gobi's Valley

Hated Rusty Bucket Bay! ugh.

and the music in Click Clock Wood was just so awesome.

feel free to add me whenever (just PM me to let me know)

The Rare we knew will never return. Since their years with Microsoft, they have been a shell of their former self, IMO at least.

I know, that's kinda sad. At least they could bring the games to the WiiWare... :*( They made so many great games I can't get over it!

That made me think of something... Nintendo is the only company that throughout years has stayed so attractive and popular among others. Sega... fail. Rare... fail. They all have a cycle, but Nintendo not!

I truly miss Banjo Kazooie and all those other Nintendo Rare games, they were some of the best games I've ever played in my life. I'm really pissed at the fact that they are nowhere near the past greatness, they'll probably never return to there Golden Days.

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

I really want Last Window, but that might not happen, you just have to accept it. I really want Banjo back too, but Microsoft owns rare now, so it probably won't happen

I liked Tackling Conga in Mumbo's Mountain, Finding the Sledge in Freezeezy Peak along with the Kids presents, oh and how can I forget playing the organ with Motzand and exploring all 4 seasons of Click Clock Wood.

A real classic, shame Banjo is now on XBOX but we must all get on with our lives.
