Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What IP's should Nintendo buy up from troubled companies?

well, the recent Xenoblade and The Last Story reveals probably have me inspired, but I would say...

Baten Kaitos (Namco Bandai) Nintendo already owns Monolith, published the last game, and Namco clearly isn't going to use the IP.  They could probably nab it for next to nothing, and honestly I'm a little surprised they didn't nab it when they bought Monoloith initially.

Ogre Battle Saga (Square Enix) All the mainline Ogre games debuted on Nintendo consoles, and it'd be nice to see the legacy live on (and the 8 chapter series actually complete itself).  Square's obviously not interested with continuing it, so I'd LOVE to see Nintendo buy it off them, set up a new studio for Matsuno, and give us epic new DS/Wii Ogres.  I think this move would actually buy Nintendo quite a bit of credibility in the JRPG community.

Seiken Densetsu / Mana (Square Enix) Another Square series that seems relegated to the sidelines, with Nintendo owning Brownie Brown and having a new relationship with Ishi's Grezzo Games, I think there's a good opportunity here.  Hell, the Gooch may even want to get in on it.

Grandia (Gung Ho) Ugh, just buy it and buy GameArts too!  I need a new Grandia, and I need it to be good this time! ;_;

I honestly don't think many of their own dormant IP's are worth that much. Well, these are what I think would be worth buying:

Timesplitters. I know Crytek owns that now, but when it was available (and it may still be for sale, you never know) it would have been a perfect fit as Nintendo need to disrupt FPS's, third parties don't seem to be trying hard enough, and it already has a good presence among Nintendo fans.

Burnout. EA seem to have sidelined this in favor of Need for Speed. Burnout did well on the GC, and Nintendo are in need of a good racer that's not a Kart Racer.

Totally agree with this.  In fact, I agree with it so much I sold NFS: Nitro and bought Burnout 2 for GC just last week.  Nitro is good but lack's Burnout's addictive gameplay.

Really tempted to get Timesplitters for GC as well but I'd really love to use the wiimote for that.

And I'd love a GTA Wii.   Even if T2 ported GTA Trilogy (or even SA) I'd be very happy.

Tales. Timesplitters is a rather strategic choice, though.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

god of war, ratchet and clank, gran turismo, the company who owns them is doomed!!!
no serious I can't think of amything

None. Companies are troubled because they've spent a long time running their IPs into the ground by making bad games. If Nintendo wants new IPs, it can just make them, considering it created the two best selling game series of all time (Mario and Pokemon) and a half dozen other multi-million sellers.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.
