Forums - Sony - Sony Announces Q3 Results (PS3 is at 33.5 million) - Net income is $861 mln

So there was no point in VGC adjusting the PS3 then? Since we can all agree the adjustment seemed to be off?

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

According to the financial report of Sony, the number is "売上," which means "sold" not "出荷" (which means shipped.)

They'd released the number of shipped in report of 2006..but they changed the number to sold from 2007.

So VGC's number for PS3 is way way too under-estimated. Don't argue that the "sold" of Sony's definition is "sold" to shops.

Come on , we all know that should call "shipped." So VGC should recheck their data soon.

If you think Sony have made some wrong information in financial report, report them to Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Or you should believe and admit it.

Shipped also includes consoles which have been sold but not dispatched, consoles on the boat and consoles within warehouses awaiting to be dispatched to stores.

i know, but i still think 2 million whether they be on shelves or in warehouses is too high!!

Oh yeah they can also include future orders in that data as well. If they have 'sold' something to be delivered later then they can put it on the books even if the PS3s in question don't exist anymore.

if that is true than yes, maybe you are right, i didn't know they was allowed to do that, oh well you learn something new every day

if sony's report is the end of dec...isnt ps3 undertracked by a lot?

yes 2 million ps3's sitting around is way too much, especially with some places having shortages, i still think 32.5(to us gamers) million for ps3 and that's me being as neutral as possible.

Shipped also includes consoles which have been sold but not dispatched, consoles on the boat and consoles within warehouses awaiting to be dispatched to stores.

Yeah especially considering that VGC had "only" 2 million Xbox360 sitting around as of December 31, while MS console has usually more shelf space than PS3 in NA/Europe (therefore more stock) and that PS3 consistently outsold the 360 in december/january.

@kowenicki

The PS2 has sold 168K, averaging 42k per week since the end of 2009.

The PSP has sold 600k averaging 150k per week since the end of 2009.

The PS2 shipped v VGC is around 8.7m or 207 weeks stock

The PSP shiped v VGC is around 7.4m or 49 weeks stock

Is this hard to believe still? YES

Bottomline, we can all agree on is that PS3 is most definitely undertracked.

Yes, the PS3 is undartracked by at least 800K

If you see in that site the diference between the ship numbers and VGchartz is almost 2 milion, i think that 1,2 milion in stores is the maximum number.

here we go again... this ha sbeen flogged to death. it is shipped. they changed the word but also the definition of the word.

No, if what you said is right, they don't need to adjust the number of 2006 in 2007's report. But they "did" adjust the number.

I don't know why all the people just think VGC's number is right. Think about it. If Sony has shipped 33.5m units of PS3 in

the end of 2009 since it released in 2006. Then according to VGC's number, there should be over 3m units of PS3 in the shops?

That's ridiculous since we all know PS3 has been out of stock in many places in the end of 2009.
