Forums - Sony - Sony Announces Q3 Results (PS3 is at 33.5 million) - Net income is $861 mln

Still have to say for a mchine that is marketed in 2 huge markets (videogame + home movie player) these figures are still quite depressing, 30 odd million from a possible market of 3 billion dvd players is pretty abysmal but hey letthe fanboys see what they want

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

Sorry... but NPD, GFK, Famitsu, Media Create make mistakes too.

In Japan... Famitsu is always different from Media Create... and who is right? NPD always overtracked or undetracked some games because they don't cover the Walmart. Same for GFK.

All are estimates... and for me the VGC is always more accurate because don't follow the mistakes of the largest tracking services... but now the excuse is that the VGC is in line with these tracking services??? This makes no sense.

The only real numbers are released by Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft ... and now they want to say that those figures are wrong??

Again... It's hard to believe that there were more than 3 million PS3s on shelves at the end of December... and PSP more than 7 million??? It's impossible.

Hello captain obvious, it's clear that the results will vary from each other but the matter right now is quite simple:

There is no shred of tracking evidence to make Sony's sell through claims real. your point about NPD, GFK not tracking some stores is moot since Nintendo has their own services that do track those stores, more accurately than NPD most probably.

Media create  and Famitsu differ? Hell, of course they differ, the fact is that none of the trackers differ enough from each other (and vgchartz) to make assumptions that we undertracked the PS3.

really, you don't have to be a genius to realize that something is wrong here and it's not the tracking services.

If i lose access to this profile as well....I'm done with this site.....You've been warned!!.....whoever you are...

this is getting beyond stupid now, I am sorry folks lots of us have pointed out the flaws of adjusting down the ps3 sales, and it is not just ps3 owners, some of them are multiple console owners, there is now way that there was nearly 3 million ps3's hanging around at the end of the busiest time of the year, quit denying it and adjust those figures!!

Over and over again.

The consoles shipped in December werent on store shelves the end of the year or the beginning of the year for that matter. They were in transit.  Then add-in the comment from Sony that they changed from reporting shipped to sold and they didnt mean sold to consumers they meant sales person taking an order.  Those could be items sold but not even manufactured yet.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

it's the same for microsoft or nintendo

they say 39 million shipped, but then numbers are not sold, still there is only around 1.5 million difference it should be the same or even less for the ps3, it's more likely 360 it's more stuffed since ps3 have beenn outselling it for alot all dec worldwide

Why not??? The tracking services do estimations only and could be wrong.

But this is easy... leaves reach the end of next quarter with Sony saying 37M and VGC only 33M... then we will know who was wrong.

As I said before the problem is not the PS3 but the 7 million of PSPs on shelves.

this is where vgc logic fails you really think there is almost three months worth of ps3's hanging around, seen as the ps3 is in such demand, this cannot be possible, not in the busiest time of the year.

it's the future of handheld
