postofficebuddy said: Regardless of how Sony is counting shipped units everyone here is neglecting to take into account one very important fact. Sony did not lower their projected shipment forecast. Shipments are currently 10.8 million, 2.2 million shy of their projection. Does anyone here honestly believe that they would even have a chance of meeting that if there is over 2.8 million PS3s in the pipeline? If that were the case they would struggle to even reach 12 million, let alone 13. Face it, it's undertracked. Source and ioi themselves have admitted that they're missing data for other others (Mainland Asia, Middle East, Oceania, Africa). VGChartz Hardware data for the period 12th Dec 2004 to 02nd Jan 2010: Console PS3 Other 1,497,962 Middle East sales are at 450k. Extrapolated from Wii sales and amount of time on the market South Korean sales are probably somewhere in the area of 300k. Do you really think there are only about 800k units sold throughout the rest of Asia, Oceania, and Africa? It's probably that much with just India and China. :edit: WTH? It's a good thing you brought this up.
Sony's current estimate for shipment for the fiscal year is 13 million.
To present, VGC has the amount sold as 11.3 million for the fiscal year.
Seemingly, VGC is very close to the Sony estimate as there are still two months left in the fiscal year. If the PS3 does about 200k per week, then that would add about 1.8 million to the total, which would be slightly above 13 million.
How many people are going to give VGC credit for being so close to Sony's own estimate?
