Forums - Sony - Buying a PS3 and TV, have questions.

So I will be purchasing a TV and PS3 this friday and I have a few questions some of you have undoubtly already solved.

1. I will make sure my TV has HDMI CEC feature. With this in mind, is there any reason to buy the actual PS3 remote or keyboard attachment?
    - Multiple people have mentioned that I won't need the PS3 remote or keyboard so long as I do have a TV with the link/sync feature and I'm not a big online chatter. Thanks.

2. With the PS3 sync'd to a Windows 7 Homegroup are their any features or media types the PS3 simply won't read?
   - Multiple people have answered this with no issues, so cool thx.
   - Looks like I need to check out "ps3mediaserver" software.

3. Is the netflix video service worth it?
   - This is still a toss up. Any more opinions?

4. Can anyone tell me if the name 'SuperChunk' is taken for the psn? :)
  - I'm a sad panda as its taken. :( ah well, just have to figure out a altered version to use. (superchunk2010)

5. Is anyone else excited that this will be my first non-Nintendo related console ever?

EDIT: Just added some info due to responses.

EDIT: GOT MY TV TONIGHT!!!

Its an amazing Sony 46" kdl-46lv (costco model) for only $800. Got it all setup with the exception that the $7 amazon branded hdmi cables won't arrive until fri/sat so, its only showing off component cable tech. Bet it will be even better with the hdmi's and the ps3 that I will buy fri/sat. Can't wait to see a bluray movie and Assassin's Creed and/or some good demos from PSN.

Also, the Wii still looks ok mostly. Need to pickup the component cables for it tomorrow as well so I can get at least 480p. Big difference in how it looked on my 32SDtv to this 46HDtv.

EDIT!!!!

Finaly post. I now have my PS3 (250GB). Bought Assassin's Creed for $20. :)

1. HMDI CEC is the codec that allows your TV remote to control the PS3 and other hardware like a stereo, etc.

2. I was just wondering if it can't read say avi files or mpeg4 etc.

Thanks for the info.

Not sure on the TV. Probably a Samsung. Didn't like the way Sony's connectors were laid out.

the ps3 can read both avi and mpeg 4 files. Your t.v. remote can't control the ps3 unless its bluetooth i guess. buy the remote on amazon. they are having a very good deal!!

Also add me once you get a psn account :)

Get Netflix for Wii

I've had my PS3 almost 3 years, never bought a remote, I just use the controller. You might want to wait on the tv, 3d is coming supposedly this year, that's when i'm buying a new tv. The PS3 reads pretty much all files, except FLV, and although VOBs play, they didn't deinterlace very well, but I use a Mediagate with 1tb usb drive for that anyway. The PS3 was my first Sony console, I like it, it's great for, for everything(c.) Seriously, I have thousands of photos on it, mine and my parents old slides, and thousands of mp3's, plus it plays blu-rays, dvd's, and games.

I was considering that, however,

1. Wii won't due HD - granted limited feature on netflix

2. Wii's wireless is odd. Laptops and PCs anywhere in my house connect without issues for any type of net content. While I don't know how fast my Wii is actually connecting, I can't watch Nintendo Channel videos at high quality and low quality still stops to buffer. So I'm hoping that since Sony makes laptops, the wireless hardware is of better quality and will connect better.

Well, I figured with more PS3 owners on here I'd get more responses. :/
