Buncombe and Ordoñez win the final race of the year

Alex Buncombe and Lucas Ordoñez have come away from the Algarve having claimed their second win of the season . Driving the nr14 RJN Motorsport Nissan 350Z, the two drivers made up for their disappointing first race this morning by pulling away and taking the win, GT4 Best Bronze for Ordoñez and winning the 2009 Team Championship as well. Michael Mallock managed a strong second place in the nr32 RS Williams Aston Martin, while Pierre Brice Mena took his second podium of the weekend, finishing third in the nr18 Espace Bienvenue BMW M3.
In Supersports, Stephane Wintenberger claimed his third win of the season in the nr102 Donkervoort D8GT. Denis Donkervoort took second place in the nr103 Donkervoort D8GT and Supersport Best Bronze driver of the weekend as well. Wolfgang Weber and Athanasios Ladas came in third place in the nr109 KTM Xbow.

The last race of the season was an exiting one; even though the champion had already been decided, the fight for second was still wide open, and the three cars left fighting for it were all at the front of the grid, giving it their all. Starting 5th on the grid, Lucas Ordoñez in the nr14 RJN Motorsport Nissan 350Z quickly took the lead, overtaking Mallock in the 5th lap and keeping a hold of that lead until the pit stops, when Alex Buncombe took over and performed his usual trick of widening the gap as much as possible, finishing the race with a 14.640 second lead over Mallock. The rest of the fighting was strong between Mallock in the nr32 RS Williams Aston Martin GT4, Mena in the nr18 BMW M3 and Osborne in the nr52 Ginetta G50. Though they remained close throughout, their positions didn't change, each of them holding on too tight to let the others pass.

At the end of the 2009 season, Joe Osborne has secured the GT4 Cup title, Augustin Eder the Supersports title, and RJN Motorsport the Teams title.   It has been an exceptionally close season, with wins going to the Aston Martin, BMW, Ginetta, Nissan and Porsche cars, while the Maserati also took a podium finish, and eight drivers went into the final weekend still able to take the title.
