Forums - General Discussion - Do you tip the cashier at the take out counter at resteraunts?

So I picked up dinner tonight and gave the cashier my credit card.  She gave it back to me and it had the tip line on there.  I'm not offended by that because it's the same system they use for their people that dine in but I'm also not going to tip them.  Tipping them would be like tipping the cashier at McDonald's.

Anyways, I draw a line over the tip line and just write the total under the total line.  I slid the check back the cashier and picked up my food.  She looked at the check and made that sound and gave me an evil look like I was some cheapskate.

What the hell?

I always tip my waiter/ress but there's no point in tipping the cashier, or should I tip the seating hostess too?

Do any of you tip the take out cashier at places like Chile's and such?  Why?  Have you people that don't tip the cashier ever get that same reaction I got?

Are you kidding? Why should you tip her? She's the cashier.
You were absolutely right.

Quem disse que a boca é tua?

Qual é, Dadinho...?

Dadinho é o caralho! Meu nome agora é Zé Pequeno!

Since they usually mess things up, I fail to see why I should give them more money.

Nope. Never tipped anyone in my life.

Hell no, I hardly tip a waitress!

Now that is harsh, dude.

When the service is good, is nice to tip the waiter.

You don't go to the same restaurant twice, do you?

Because you might've been drinking something other than coffee...

I'd never tip a cashier. The only thing s/he does is turn around and give you your food, at least the waiter takes your order from your table and delivers the food, so you don't have to move. (I always tip the waiter if the service was good)
Never saw anywhere in my country that you're supposed to tip the cashier either

Looks like we've got a Mr. Pink here.

I usually try to tip 15-20% for a sit-down restaurant depending on how good they were. For delivery I'll tip a bit less.

Tipping for take out would be stupid, and I've never heard of anyone doing it. What do they expect the tip to be for? You're the one coming out to get it. Maybe they should be tipping you.

@Phendrana
heh, beat me to the Reservoir Dogs reference
OT:hell no. tipping the cashier is something that hasnt ever crossed my mind. They provide you no service at all beyond their jobs, and they usually suck at that too.
