"Tales of Vesperia," the latest in Namco Bandai's long-running "Tales" series of games, debuted to a couple of hundred waiting gamers in Tokyo on Thursday morning.

Sales of the Xbox 360 title began a little after 8 a.m. at Yodobashi Camera in Tokyo's Akihabara electronics district, where about 200 people were waiting by the time the game launched. The first person in line arrived late on Wednesday night.

Yodobashi opened sales at 8 a.m. to people buying a bundle of the game and a special-edition "Tales of Vesperia" Xbox 360 console. The bundle, which includes a Vesperia faceplate and additional DVD, costs ¥37,800 (US$345), while the game itself costs ¥7,800, although major electronics retailers are discounting the game price by about ¥1,000.

Japan is the first country to see the game, which will go on sale in North America on Aug. 26 and in Europe in the first half of next year. The role-playing game follows other titles, including "Tales of Symphonia" and "Tales of the Abyss," and sees characters Yuri and Flynn embark on a quest to save their world.

Microsoft is betting on popular Japanese role-playing games like "Tales of Vesperia" to help popularize the Xbox 360 in the market. The console trails Nintendo's Wii and Sony's PlayStation 3 in a distant third place in Japan. Sales of the console totaled 4,941 units in the last week of July, according to figures from Media Create. In contrast, the Wii sold 41,024 units, the PlayStation 3 sold 10,692 units and the PlayStation 2 sold 9,291 units, the company said.

Another Xbox 360 title awaited by Japanese gamers, Square Enix's "Infinite Undiscovery," is scheduled to go on sale Sept 11.

And a picture...I think it's from a different location:

Obviously a picture and 1 report really can't, and won't, tell the story of what's going on. However, there was no media from Blue Dragon, Halo 3, Ace Combat 6, or any other X360 games that had anyone of decent measure waiting for any X360 games.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

More people than the Xbox 360 launch itself? 360 definitely has a good chance of crossing streams with PS3 next week and getting 5 digit figures for sales.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Nice! I hope it sells well. Maybe after Tales of Hearts and The Wii Tales of game, namco will develop another 360 tales of.

I wonder if there are any high school students there(the stated target audience for ToV)? Probably depends if they have the money for a 360.

EDIT:This game will sell 100K in it's first week if not it's first day if these lines are anything to go by

I love that they always get in huge lines for any big game that comes out. I wonder if there's a person who waits a few hours, walks into the store and picks the game up and laughs at everybody who waited.

Great news for the 360 in japan.

Interesting! I can't wait for this game, but I just don't know how they do it (wait in line I mean)! It could mean a lot for the Xbox 360 in Japan if at least one RPG on it sells well.

I wonder what's the little figure at the bottom of the post though... A bus with eyes? o_o

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

What I've been hoping for since the game was announced. Awesome job Namdai :)

All of them look annoyed somehow though. They are all facepalming.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

At Halo 3 launch everybody was in big line who preordered it and waiting for Hours. I walk into BestBuy @ noon and their are about 300 copies of h3 sitting on a huge card table on launch day.

I see no reason to preorder games, or at least wait in line for hours.

My brother preordered MGS4 to get the limited edition so preodering a game can have its rewards
