Forums - Gaming - Boom Blox - Impressions (must-buy for every Wii owner!)

So I bought Boom Blox today. 40 euro, which is pretty cheap for a game. The box art sucks, and the back of the box is very unclear about what the game is about. The screenshots are lame and there is just no incentive whatsoever to buy this game if you've never heard of it.

I'm glad I took the plunge.

Boom Blox is a physics-based puzzle/action game. There are tons of different tools which you must use to play the game. You start out with a ball you can shoot into the level, and end up with lots of other tools like grabbing blocks, shooting lasers, shooting water, and many more.

The game starts with a basic tutorial. And when I say basic, I mean basic. The game starts off really easy. This is not a bad thing, because the simpleness invites you to play on, to see what's coming next. Things get harder gradually, and about 15 minutes in, it may be easy to get bronze medals for the most levels, but getting gold can be damn tricky. There are many different kinds of puzzles in the game, from shooting blocks to make chain reactions and reaching points, to grabbing blocks from a tower "jenga" style.

The single player is addictive and fun, but it's only a small portion of the game. The game supports tons of multiplayer options, for up to 4 players. You can play turn-based or simultaneous. But that's not all: there's an extremely powerful but very easy to use level editor. You can create your own levels from scratch and share the game via WiiConnect with all your friends. Just wow. The options are limitless.

Graphically, the game is cheery, but very simple. The game runs at 480p, 16:9 widescreen and at a smooth 60 fps most of the time. When things get heavy, the game slows down a bit, but nothing major. The real eye-cather here though is the havok physics engine. They are very sophisticated and realistic. This game may be the most physics-based game I ever played. It even beats out Half-Life 2 when it comes to pure physics. Impressive.

All in all, this is a very special game. It may not sound like a great game to you, but it is. There's tons of content here and it's just really impressive and fun.

Buy Boom Blox. You won't regret it.

I‘m curious:
Did Steven program this before or after he directed Indiana Jones 4?

Hmm sounds good, I have never really bought just a puzzle game even though I like puzzles, probably because I have never had a handheld and I want more from a home game, but good level editors can solve that

Thanks for the info.

Just saw XPlay and they gave it 5 out of 5. Morgan started off the review by saying they to shoot and kill people and love violence and blood (paraphrased) but they love all types of games. She did say the single and dual player modes were great and addicting, but the games REALLY shines as a 4 player game.

Called it the next big party game as everyone can play it, but there was gameplay there for hardcore gamers as well.

Said this is a game that makes the Wii "shine."

BTW, they gave Kart 4/5, so this became a 'tomorrow' purchase for me!

BAM! There it is!

Wii Code 3456 7941 4060 2924
COD MW Reflex 541192229709

So let me get this straight so I understand fully. Am I witnessing the unprecedented moment that someone other than myself is telling VGChartz to purchase a game developed and published by EA?

Tag: Became a freaking mod and a complete douche, coincidentally, at the same time.

That is correct, sir.

While I don't like EA's philiosophy (buying the competition out, not innovating their big franchises) they do make good games every now and then. This is one of them.

""he single player is addictive and fun, but it's only a small portion of the game. The game supports tons of multiplayer options, for up to 4 players. ""

that is the catch though... it's a party game and you can only have so much of these...
Plus you have had the game only since today and you've gone arround the single player already?? sounds pretty short.
Is there a random level generator? (adds life span...)

Nope I'm not even close to completing the game. Really, the game is HUGE, there's so much to do. And it may be partially a party game, but it's also great fun in single player and there's a very robust level editor. So why would you want a random level generator?

well good that you clarified that. I had the impression that is was short and multiplayer oriented from what you wrote.

The random generator is for lazy people like me who don't like spending time building new levels :p

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

you say it's great as a 4 player game... can it work with 3? Just curious since my family would most likely be playing with 3.
