PS5 Best-Seller, PS5 and XS Sales Up YoY - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for January 2024

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console worldwide with 1,385,687 units sold for January 2024, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 54.17 million units lifetime worldwide.

The Nintendo Switch sold an estimated 999,745 units to bring its lifetime sales to 137.72 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 452,119 units to bring their lifetime sales to 27.68 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 6,642 units to bring its lifetime sales to 117.16 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are up by over 224,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by nearly 20,000 units. PS4 sold 1,161,413 units for the month of January 2017 and Xbox One sales were at 471,865 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are up by 92,475 (7.2%). Xbox Series X|S sales are up by 19,642 units (4.5%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 107,854 units (-9.7%). The PlayStation 4 is down by 12,380 units (-65.1%) year-over-year. It should be noted, January 2024 is a five week period, while it was four weeks in January 2023.

Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are down by over 2.47 million units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by over 1.40 million units, and Nintendo Switch sales are down by nearly 2.50 million units. It should be noted, this is comparing a holiday month (December 2023) to a non-holiday month (January 2024).

PS5 Best-Seller, XS Sales Up YoY - Americas Hardware Estimates for January 2024 

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in the Americas (USA, Canada, & Latin America) with 501,539 units sold for January 2024, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 22.53 million units lifetime in the Americas.

The Nintendo Switch was the second best-selling console with an estimated 297,903 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 52.62 million units. The Xbox Series X|S came in third place with 287,139 units sold to bring its lifetime sales to 16.55 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 1,482 units to bring its lifetime sales to 41.54 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2017 are up by over 242,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are up by nearly 53,000 units. PS4 sold 259,155 units for the month of January 2017 and Xbox One sales were at 234,393 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 6,054 (-1.2%). Xbox Series X|S sales are up by 23,519 units (8.9%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 30,425 units (-9.3%). The PlayStation 4 is down by 5,192 units (-77.8%) year-over-year. It should be noted, January 2024 is a five week period, while it was four weeks in January 2023.

Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are down by nearly 1.31 million units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by nearly 1.06 million units, and Nintendo Switch sales are down by over 1.24 million units. It should be noted, this is comparing a holiday month (December 2023) to a non-holiday month (January 2024).

PS5 Best-Seller, NS Sees Sharp Decline - Europe Hardware Estimates for January 2024

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in Europe with 433,510 units sold for January 2024, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 17.90 million units lifetime in Europe.

The Nintendo Switch sold an estimated 244,150 units to bring its lifetime sales to 35.45 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 101,859 units to bring their lifetime sales to 7.45 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 1,332 units to bring its lifetime sales to 45.85 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are down by nearly 39,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by nearly 54,000 units. PS4 sold 472,021 units for the month of January 2017 and Xbox One sales were at 155,468 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are up by 39,920 (10.1%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 3,818 units (-3.6%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 93,676 units (-27.7%). The PlayStation 4 is up by 1,936 units (59.2%) year-over-year.

Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are down by over 770,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by over 253,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales are down by nearly 827,000 units.

PS5 and Xbox Series Sales Jump - Japan Hardware Estimates for January 2024

The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console in Japan with 283,318 units sold for January 2024, according to VGChartz estimates. The Nintendo Switch has now sold an estimated 32.12 million units lifetime in Japan.

The PlayStation 5 sold an estimated 220,039 units to bring its lifetime sales to 5.19 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 10,872 units to bring their lifetime sales to 0.55 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 3,190 units to bring its lifetime sales to 9.67 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are up by over 8,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are up by over 10,000 units. PS4 sold 211,872 units for the month of January 2017 and Xbox One sales were at 848 units.

Nintendo Switch sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 31,125 units (-9.9%). PlayStation 5 sales are up by 31,841 (16.9%) and Xbox Series X|S sales are up by 6,585 units (153.6%). The PlayStation 4 is down by 3,507 units (-52.4%) year-over-year.

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch sales are up down by over 152,000 units, the PlayStation 5 sales are up by nearly 8,000 units, and Xbox Series X|S sales are up by nearly 4,000 units.

PS5 Best-Seller, PS5 and XS Sales Up YoY - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for January 2024

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console worldwide with 1,385,687 units sold for January 2024, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 54.17 million units lifetime worldwide.

The Nintendo Switch sold an estimated 999,745 units to bring its lifetime sales to 137.72 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 452,119 units to bring their lifetime sales to 27.68 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 6,642 units to bring its lifetime sales to 117.16 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2016 are up by over 224,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by nearly 20,000 units. PS4 sold 1,161,413 units for the month of January 2017 and Xbox One sales were at 471,865 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are up by 92,475 (7.2%). Xbox Series X|S sales are up by 19,642 units (4.5%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 107,854 units (-9.7%). The PlayStation 4 is down by 12,380 units (-65.1%) year-over-year. It should be noted, January 2024 is a five week period, while it was four weeks in January 2023.

Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are down by over 2.47 million units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by over 1.40 million units, and Nintendo Switch sales are down by nearly 2.50 million units. It should be noted, this is comparing a holiday month (December 2023) to a non-holiday month (January 2024).
