The fact Zelda is one of the only in demand launch Switch games means it's going to have a crazy high attach rate.

Winning for Horizon wasn't guaranteed.  We knew Zelda would sell well.  But did we know a first attempt of an RPG by guerilla games of all devs could beat that?  Definitely not.  Horizon WW must have beat Zelda by a lot.  Sales probably around 3m by now.  Definitely way above expectations.

I'd say Horizon sold above expectations sure. But you're kidding yourself if you think it's going to outsell BOTW once the Switch gets more consoles into homes.

If it's the main bundle it will.  Zelda is going to have a lot of catching up to and if Sony bundle Horizon it may never catch up.

That attach rate for BOTW is insane. Zelda is taking names!

Yeah the attach rate is absolutely batshit insane considering the Wii U version sales and the amazing selection of games on the Switch. The next thing you know, Zelda BotW popularity >>> GTAV.

1-2 Switch did INCREDIBLE as well for a new IP!

There are plenty of caveats to go around for both titles:

BotW on Switch has a very high attach rate but the Switch only just recently launched and BotW is the game to play on it out of the gate. BotW runs best in handheld so some may also be holding off on a BotW purchase until they can get their hands on a somewhat-scarce Switch or until the library for the Switch builds up.

Horizon did amazing numbers considering it's a new IP but it launched on a platform 50+ million strong with plenty of Sony marketing behind it.

Guerrilla Games's games also have the distinction of getting compared to established franchises. Happened with Killzone being compared to Halo and now Horizon being compared to Zelda. A heavy burden for GG and its respective new IP but at the same time, it's good publicity.

Honestly, I dislike it when the two titles are compared seeing how there are many key differences with respect to marketability and such but people gotta have something to talk about I suppose.

And Horizon launch beat Switch, worldwide

I don't remotely understand the comparison.  There are over 55 million PS4's out there.  I can walk into any store and pick-up a copy of Horizon Zero Dawn right now if I wanted to.  The Nintendo Switch is completely sold out.  The only reason I have one is because my wife pre-ordered it for me.  Not hard for a heavily hyped 55 million+ user base game to sell more copies than a sold out system launch.

Lol

Pocky Lover Boy!

Zelda has never been big in Japan but western games do not exist, so this is no surprise.

Yeah it used to kind of annoy me how "passionate fans" oversimplify things to prove a point while ignoring all context, but now it's mostly fun and giggles to be honest.

Speaking of fun and giggles, I sorta made this thread tongue-in-cheek. No one has noticed yet though, apparently...

I'm either really good at hiding it or I'm terrible at parody...
