Yeah, you're right.  Lying straight to your face isn't such an issue.  We don't have enough devs that lie to our faces, we need more.  As if gamers aren't screwed over by publishers enough these last two gens.

And yes, that's exactly what it is.  Like Nobunaga's Ambition Sphere of Influence, Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles, and other games, it allows you to change what background music is playing depending on where you are and what's happening.  That's a pretty big feature.  It's not an extra dungeon or a secret boss, but it's more than just an outfit for each party member.  It's the soundtrack for four different games.  Having an entirely different soundtrack to listen to while you're playing would make the game more enjoyable, especially if you swap out the songs you dislike with ones that you enjoy.
