Maybe it's just my opinion, but SE decision was actually based on console sales and marketing research , beside other exclusive contract of course.
Since i posses the early Game boy Color , to DS and 3DS i never doubt Nintendo is the king on Handled , they just good with designing a handled loved by many people from children and mature people. as PlayStation fan i never have any interest with PSP or even Vita. If i have excess money maybe i will get one , but it's not the first choice for me.
The same thing goes with console, but i prefer PlayStation more then Nintendo as my first choice, is not that i hate Nintendo, it's just that when playing third party games and first party games PS always amuse me , with Nintendo it's just a nostalgia games that I like Zelda, Mario, and Donkey Kong but those games actually good when it has a classic graphic and played on handled, unlike games like Uncharted is good when it's played on console then on Vita.
But yeah maybe when NX comes it will changes, but who knows ( because we still don't have any confirmation if NX is handled , console or fusion) but since PlayStation era until now it always been like that, especially for me. It's actually my opinion but Square Enix actually has the same thought with me. I am happy i will get both Dragon Quest on my PS4 and 3DS. Because both is the King of Console and King of handled.
