Do you want a bunch of Indie horror games on consoles?

So, I have been playing Outlast since yesterday, because it came free with Psn Plus for the PS4.

You play as a journalist WITH NO GUN that investigates a Insane person´s hospital called Asylum whatever. That is not important.

The important part is that you have a very cool video camera and document whatever you want, to expose the evidence. You can turn the camera on, off and use infrared lenses to see in the dark. The camera uses batteries that go out with time and managing that is part of the experience.

What I love in OUTLAST is that you are not suppose to fight, heck, you don´t even have a fight button, all you can do is experience and document with the camera, Run, Hide and Die. That is it.

This creates a amazing, unique and VERY SATISFYING horror game, like nothing else in the console market really.

The game is amazing, the graphics, actually quite good, althought I know a lot of people said they were bad.

I got really scared a lot of times playing, not only because of set pieces, but because of the mood, atmosphere and overall experience, this is the Horror I crave for in games!

That said, I know there are many games like that on Steam and very few on consoles. My question is: why?
We obviously proved that we crave for this games, see ZombiU on WiiU, it sold 700k, which is a 15% install base penetration.
Of course horror will never sell 10 ou 20 million, but Outlast proves it doesn´t have to cost that much, it only needs good ideas and careful execution.
Well, I say: let the indies bring their horror games to the consoles, a lot of people, me included, hate to game on PC, and with Sony policy of self publishing, there is no reason for us to have horror games droughts anymore.
Don´t Starve (PS4) and Lone Survivor (PS3 - Vita) are cool introductions to the genre too.
Also, MS should change their policies, Sony is kicking their asses with the Indies, there are tons of cool indie titles on PSN for Vita, PS3 and even for the newborn baby PS4.
The future of horror is console indie games, and I for one am very happy about it!

I liked Outlast, but after the first hour or so it became very mediocre.
Go to this destination, turn on 3 levers while man is trying to hunt you, walk to this destination, jump scare and repeat. Just got so dull for me, was another PC walking simulator. I still think its a good game and recommend it.

It was like a virtual haunted house.

As far as indie horror games on consoles go I feel it would be more beneficial than anything. It just depends whether that target demographic is on consoles or not, we know that demographic is on PC.

I would like to see some good indie horror games come to consoles. But I prefer the ZombiU type games to Outlast type. Outlast is just way too scary for me, I need some way to fight back, and that setting would be terrifying in any game let alone a horror game.

That is the point really, get scared. Outlast is cool because you can Save and Quit at any time, so you can get a 15 minutes horror daily fix everyday if you get too scared for a long play session.

And of course, being able to fight back can be part of some horror games too, like Lone Survivor, Siren and the original Silent Hill. As long as you are not overpowered and the ammo is VERY scarse, it is cool.

the game can be fucking scary... i fucking love it.

Oh, for a indie game it is awesome, and imagine how cool it would be if PSN had dozens of horror games like that?  It would be great. I love how the game is always diferent in Outlast and Don´t Starve, this is very fun for me.

I understand your opinion, but I am still very happy with these games, LONE SURVIVOR, DON´T STARVE and OUTLAST are the kind of game I love in the place I love: the consoles.

The thing is, yes, this games are on PC, but they are not that big or expensive, there is no good reason for them not to be on consoles, at least in digital form. PSN is the proof of it. And there is a audience for these games on consoles, hell, why so many people game on consoles? Because they don´t enjoy PCs that much, not only because console gamers are dumber.

I hate PC but my favorite genres are strategy and Horror, there is a lot o people like me out there, the console maker that realize this will make a lot of money =D

Good for you Banana! I love Don´t Starve as well, it is the ultimate Survival game, so fun to play! I find myself sometimes desesperate to find just another bit of food to last one more hour alive. And, yes, when the night comes, things get very very creepy indeed!

I don't understand how not fighting back makes up for satisfying horror... I had the same itch with Penumbra or Amnesia. In real life, you'd at least try to fight back if its your last resort. You don't keep up recording crap.

And the ending of Outlast was kinda crappy. Kinda thrown-in for the lulz.

I'd rather invest into what Mikami is doing, honestly. Give me more The Evil Within games, less indies.

I did not like outlast at all. Super boring and not scary. If there are more indie horror games hopefully they will do a better job...

its amazing. but fuck, when you die you take a break from the game. you just cant keep playing it right after you die, its just to depressing.

whats your longest run so far? mine is 66 days.
