This past Wednesday and today, Nintendo has hosted events at select Best Buy locations to raise hype for games shown at E3. Four titles – Super Mario 3D World, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart 8, and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze – will be showcased at today’s event and will be playable at select Best Buys around the country.

Editor’s Note: This article originally suggested that Microsoft intentionally positioned sales reps to have a presence at the Nintendo event. However, it seems more likely that it’s an isolated incident or series of such incidents rather than a widespread marketing tactic. The previous suggestion has accordingly been removed.

Microsoft has been trying to raise hype for Xbox One, and the exclusives they showed at E3 worked in their favor. However, this alleged promotion for Wii U may have been seen as too good an opportunity for the Microsoft representatives at Best Buy. Gamers have had to deal with comments like “Why would you bother with a Wii U when Xbox One is right around the corner?”
