Well at the moment Sony has not confirmed the departure however Eurogamer claims that it has occurred saying he is no longer with Sony. Fumito Ueda credited with creating Ico, Shadow Of the Collosus and The Last Guardian has apparently left Sony's Team Ico officially.
He is still involved with Team Ico apparently working on The last Guardian however not as a Sony employee rather a freelance game developer. Upon completion of The Last Guardian he is said to pursue some personal projects. Eurogamer claims that Fumito's departure is one of the major reasons for The Last Story's protracted development.
No word on whether the 41 year old Fumito Ueda will go onto to found an independent studio or continue to work freelance for game companies. Whether he will continue making Sony games exclusively or branch out onto other platforms. His games are notorious for long 4+ year development cycles but are some of the PlayStation brands most memorable master pieces.
Why do you think Fumito may have left Sony's Team Ico? Do you think he will found an independent studio like many of the all star developers leaving companies like Tecmo and Capcom? What are your thoughts on his supposed departure?
