I am not really much of a fan of FPS.Id rather play shooting games like Starfox/Sin and Punishment and some of the on rails games like House of the Dead. BUt I do enjoy some of the RE games, Metroid if that counts but its not the same. I liked the very first Medal of Honor, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark. Their might be a few more but those are the only ones worth mentioning at the moment.

are portal and Mirrors Edge really FPSes?  i find them more of a Platformer (Mirror's Edge) and a Puzzler (Portal)

Mirror's Edge is not a first-person shooters, it may have elements of one, but it's a platformer at it's core. Like how Portal is a puzzle game at it's core.
