Super Mario
Super Mario leads the way
One of the best selling games of all time, Super Mario has been lauded also as the game that launched Nintendo Entertainment to the spotlight. The game is considered as a classic game holding a record of 190 million copies sold. The game features a plumber named Mario and his brother Luigi. The game is divided into phases that need to be passed in order to proceed to the next. One of the games in Super Mario series featured Mario saving a damsel in distress, Princess Peach.
Leading the way in video gaming in its time, this game series was Nintendo's flag bearer in video gaming industry in the 1980s. This was an especially difficult time for video gaming world but Nintendo managed to stand out. Super Mario also became the unofficial mascot of the company. Its soundtrack can be easily recognized by both kids and adults alike. The character, Mario, was also featured among other games because of its popularity.
The gameplay is also interestingly innovative. There are several things that can aid in meeting the objectives of the game. After collecting 100 coins, the life of the character will be increased by one. Getting a certain mushroom transforms Mario into larger Super Mario or, at times, Luigi. Super Mario, the larger version, can absorb 2 hits before dying. Other feature like playing in other worlds is also present. The last level of the game has to be passed by killing the main enemy.
Nintendo released several versions of the games. Each succeeding game has improved graphics and audio aspects. More enhancements to the game can also be found in versions for PC today but they are not released by Nintendo.
The PC versions of the game series today have more enhancements than the original. They are flash-based games and can be played in any PC. This means that anyone that has good internet connection can play the game unlike in the 1980s when one has to have a game player and cartridge to run the game. This makes the game more popular and easy to access.
