I will start things slowly with a confession. I suck at Mario Games (platformers) only beating Super Mario Bros. NES and Super Mario World SNES.

I read your post twice. What exactly is it you want us to do in this thread?

"Retro game stories" ??

I want people to post some of their favorite game stories from systems pasts, or confessions like mine, reviews, whatever you have to say about retro games.

Well, I remember playing Super Mario Bros 3...I loved that game so much. Now, back then they didn't have the save feature like all these current systems do. i had to learn how to beat the game pretty much in one sitting. I loved going all the way through. My only hang up was the last World...it took along time. I remember staying up all night to be that game...this was before finding out about how to skip levels..

I personally think the Dreamcast would have been my favorite console of last gen if Sega had continued to support it.

There was so many awesome games on the system like Powerstone, Skies of Arcadia, Soul Calibur, Grandia 2, Crazy Taxi, the original UFC game and many more. I loved that system damn you Sega.

Yah I do kind of miss the old grind to beat games like Contra, or Kid Icarus etc. But as much as I miss retro gaming I do love the being able to save games when I want to.

Maybe this counts: I rented Baseball Stars for the NES, and got completely hooked on it. I must of played it at least 8-10 hours straight, and was up after midnight. Next day I decide I would go out and buy Baseball Stars for the NES, so I return the rental and go to Toys R Us. They get the Genesis in, so not only did I buy Baseball Stars, but I also bought several games for the Genesis (Including Thunder Force II).

My confession: No matter how hard I tried, or how many times I pressed the reset button, I could not pass stage 6 on Double Dragon II: The Revenge for the NES. EVER. Does anyone remember that bitch of a stage? You know, the one with the impossible stalled jumps, vanishing platforms, and spikes that when they impale you equaled instant death? Yeah, if you don't know what I'm talking about, don't lose sleep over it. Believe me, those are the things in life that cause aneurysms.

Another story, to replace the duplicate post.  I heard someone mention there was a game coming out on the Genesis called "Herzog Something or other".  I got curious, and then found out it was Herzog Zwei, and I bought it, and got blown away by it.  That game is still unmatched.   I want a real updated remake.

The best Christmas ever, 1999.
Dreamcast, baby. That's all that needs to be said.
