Forums - Nintendo Discussion - *Mario on Wii is enough!*

Am I the only one who thinks that Nintendo has had to much Mario on the Wii? Mario is a great franchise overall but come on its kind of starting to get annoying. The 64 had 9 Mario games in America The G.C had 12 Mario games in America The Wii has 10 Mario games in America so far with 11 counting S.M.G.2 Sony,Microsoft, and Nintendo all said that this gen will be longer than in the past 2 gens. I am not saying that no more Mario games should be on Wii I am just saying no more in a while. If they do than I hope for Luigi's Mansion 2 because that doesn't have the same gameplay as the other platform Mario games. The only reason that Nintendo has less on Wii is because they don't make Mario Party every year anymore. Don't hate me because of this but I am just saying that it would be nice to have had these before more Mario: Pikmin Kirby Starfox F-Zero Luigi's Mansion Donkey Kong adventure Yoshi Wii Its like Nintendo only has Mario and the Wii Named games now. Metroid is also oddly popular with Nintendo this gen. Even Zelda only has 1 game that was ment to be only for G.C when it was announced. So please no more Mario for awhile!

My question for you:

Is Mario Kart similar to Mario Galaxy? Is Mario Galaxy similar to New Super Mario Bros. Wii?

If they are completely different games you shouldn't worry with the "Mario" brand, because after all it's just a brand and the same character, but the games are completely differents.

i agree, i love mario but i reckon its enough this gen, i think its time for a star fox long waited return

More than any generation, many more people this generation are saying 'there are no core/AAA games on Wii'. Yet many of these people are the same people who are saying 'Nintendo is focusing too much on making the same junk over and over'. And really, you can't say both at the same time. If you are going to say Nintendo is making too many Mario games (or Zelda, Metroid or any other series for that matter), then you are saying Nintendo is making too many 'core' games period. They are delivering exactly what the fans are asking. More core games, made internally by Nintendo (not by a outsourced third party) and of higher quality of the games on the GameCube.

While third parties may be alienating the Wii, Nintendo themselves are proving they can deliver both quality and quantity on the Wii. And you better believe Mario is their biggest core pillar supporting the Wii.  And of course there's the simple fact, like a lot of people are saying, all the Mario games are very different.  Mario Galaxy is a totally different genre and plays nothing like Super Paper Mario.  And New Super Mario Bros Wii plays nothing like Mario Kart Wii.  etc.

He may be everywhere, but Mario and Sonic at the Olympics is the only Mario game to have a sequel released so far. So... That's pretty good for NOT milking your franchises.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I want a Super Mario Bros 3 remake, with graphics similar to Waria Land Shake it

Yep, too much Mario, and yeah, even though all his games are different, there's no need for a Mario galaxy 2 before the 1st F-zero, Star Fox, DK (platforms), Kirby or Yoshi game.

It's sad how Nintendo is forgetting everything else but Mario.

That's why their next major game coming out is the second Wii Metroid game.  As well as many other games being made like a new Zewlda game, Kirby, Endless Ocean, etc.

it may feel that way because you really seem to love F-Zero, Star Fox, DK, Kirby, and Yoshi games and i hear where your coming from... like when the SECOND DS zelda in a row was announced before a single Zelda Wii screenshot was even shown, it was a little frustrating...

but for me to have siad that nintendo was only focusing on the DS, that wouldn't have been true on my part, and to say that Nintendo is forgetting everything but mario is also not true in my opinion. they've obviously released plenty of non-mario games

I miss Kirby, DK and Yoshi too, they still need to release those + other games sometime right? :)

They're all different styles, in fact many of them are considered the best in their genre this generation (Mario Kart Wii, NSMB Wii, Super Mario Galaxy).

SMG2 is the only one that is similar to previous games and could be considered unnecessary because it doesn't attract new customers. Contrast with the number of Call of Duty or Guitar Hero games that appeal to exactly the same customers and it's not excessive.

Pretty much.  Looking at the "direct sequels" only...

Nintendo 64
