Forums - Sony Discussion - Top 5 reasons not to buy a PS3

5. No Warranty

The world of video gaming is already a perilous one in which you can't return anything you've bought, but at least you can always sell your games to other people who like them. But why should you treat yourself to a large black paperweight for Christmas? Allow me to clarify, the motherboard on the PS3 uses a battery of all things. This is traditionally not the case with most computers or anything else with as much "so-called" cutting edge technology. From what we've seen in the past, batteries are usually there to artificially serve as a countdown timer to the eventual death of the product. This battery housing is also sealed via lock and key, so if you lose the key, you lose the system.

4. Blu Ray

Just recently, Toshiba further dropped its pricing of its HDDVD players to sub 100$ prices. With hundreds upon thousands of titles available, with a very strong indie base, Blu-Ray is going to be in its toughest year yet. Why should you pay for a product which might be obsolete in a 4-5 years? Rather, we suggest that you should buy a 360 which has a DVD player. Additionally, the BR player is also battery powered, and the battery case is welded shut providing further problems.

3. Digital Distribution

Another problem that I've run into in my intense research (being a credible journalist this happens all the time!), is that there is a new model of the PS3. Already Sony has had a near dozen different hardware updates, with each one being better than the last (which further illustrates why you shouldn't buy one, but I won't get into that now). Apparently, this new PS3 is much slimmer, uses less power, and did away with backwards compatibility, so say goodbye to all those ps1 and ps2 games. Anyway this new strategy for Sony is to make the PS3 portable, much like the Gamecube. Unfortunately for Sony, they didn't realize that the Gamecube was a complete failure in that aspect. The new PS3, should you decide to get one regardless of my warnings, is called the PSPGo!. Sony did away with the "3" and added "portable", so that the consumer has a better idea of what this Playstation is designed for.

But here's the kicker, and this is sure to kill off the playstation franchise for good. This console is download only. Yes you can still watch Blu Ray movies, but only if you stream them from another computer or from Netflix. It seems everyone in the industry is in uproarious laughter over the utter stupidity that Sony is demonstrating. Also, this new PS3 (aka:PSPgo) has a smaller battery which has been sealed via ink tag, so if you try to remove the battery, ink will spill all over the motherboard frying it and letting everyone know that you were too stupid to buy a better product.

2. Camera problems

The PS3 uses a camera function to allow for its motion control games. Unfortunately, this camera won't work if the lights are dim, and you therefore cannot play any ps3 games, a majority of which are motion control using a sixth axis. This camera technology though, I will applaud. It is powered via solar cell, and therefore doesn't require any batteries (Finally, Sony!!!). As someone who spends a majority of their time looking up green technology I can only say that this technology may be a future industry leader. However, like I said, it won't play in the dark, so at this time you need to have a light on, which kind of cancels out the green savings of the solar cell. Additionally, the solar cell is sealed in place using something called an eye pet, which will bite you if you try to open it. The following poison it injects into your body with give you Eight Days to live unless you visit a doctor.

1. Controllers

It’s all fun and games until the battery dies. Unlike its competitors, which use replaceable AA batteries, the PS3’s remote control is glued shut. When the battery goes, Sony customers have to blow $55 on a new controller. Sony says there’s an “environmental benefit” since gamers don’t have to toss their batteries on a regular basis, but Isidor Buchmann, president of battery-equipment maker Cadex Electronics, says captive batteries are becoming common because it’s cheaper for companies to eliminate the battery housing and hatch.

I think this lady really has a point. What's with all the sealed batteries Sony?

6. Graphics quality

One of the biggest upoming games of this generation has been a huge letdown for Sony. The God of War Collection has been in the making for several years and has turned out to be an epic disaster. The fact is, the game looks like a PS2 game. Unfortunately this might close one of Sony's biggest and most respected studios, Santa Monica. Additionally, the games box has a battery controlling the opening/closing function of the box. Once this battery dies, you will be unable to use the box anymore.

7. No Games

The oldest reason not to buy PS3 since it launched and i dont see why we should get rid of this reason. I know there are some great games like uncharted, MGS4 and VC but lets pretend they don't exist. Additionally, these games are just giant batteries which will die when the juice runs out.

8) Features.

The PS3 may have some features not found on its competitors, like a web browser (which is, unfortunately, battery powered, and you have to call Wal-Mart customer service to replace the battery). But, it is missing critical toaster functionality found in both the Wii and 360. Even the grill is no longer an exclusive feature. And it uses twice as many batteries as the George Foreman 360 Grill.

i lol'd hard at this. What's the writer's name?

The Halo francise is the most overrated bland game to ever hit the console market. It provides a bad name to all FPS that even showed effort at creating an original entertaining plot.

I probably have more ps3 games than you :/

Oh yeah, this should've been mentioned in my opinion.

This has been one of the most anticipated games of the generation and it's really old looking.

lol fact is ps3 treats its customers better than xbox 360

lol, I know number 1 is from an actual article. I'm assuming the rest are too? Just wow...

I believe that the battery thing comes from Yahoo Tech.

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.
