Most reviews are less trustworthy than I am and that says a lot.

People who actually paid full price for a game give you a much better opinion than most of the guys who review games for a living and get free copies along with some bribe.

I agree with you on the gamers prespective rol.

I just find that the really big hyped games are becoming like hollywood blockbusters.

What I mean is the pressure on the sites is too much for them to give  anything but a glowing review for said game.

So how do you distinguish the good from the  bad?

Even taking it to a different level us bloggers are getting as bad.

I mean if you support a particular console you will go to hell and high water to defend it and its exclusives.

I do not disclude myself of been guilty of that on ocassions.

(Dont know if that word disclude is legit but I like it.)

The hollywood blockbusters line isn't very good, since movie reviewers have tons of integrity and will slam the shit out of any movie they want to, regardless of it's budget or status. If you look at the Oscars and the movies that get represented, it would be the equivalent of games like Demon's Souls and Scribblenauts being top contenders for GOTY instead of Uncharted 2 and MW2.

I have to disagree with you there onyxmeth.

Maybe its my age but I find the same hype surrounds movies these days.

I have seen plenty of movies get great reviews that were a let down to me when I watched them.

Please dont ask me the names of them as I have been trying to think of a few but cannot.

I know a few Jim Carrey ones come to mind.

In saying that you make a fair point as movies are more diverse and can appeal to some and not others.

The point I was making I suppose was that games are moving into that hype area.

Like drake represents brad pitt or ghost represents rambo.

A very crude analysis I know but my point been the games have become bigger than the reviewer.

when it comes to wii only nintendo power can be trusted in my opinion.

When reviewers get flown in by the company making the game and get wined and dined before making the review, I'd say not at all trustworthy

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I am the opposite to the OP, I'd rather trust a reviewer than a gamer on the internet. Too many fanboys lurking around who will support any exclusive game their favourite console has.

I never read any reviews though, but I often use metacritic, it (almost) never fails me.

Ummm...ok. Do you need me to just hop on over to Metacritic and pull examples for you? I thought this was common sense that the majority of movie reviewers are not affected at all by the hype of movies.

oh and when it comes to the HD twins every game is over hyped. im a huge call of duty player and mw2 is the worst call of duty game ever made (not counting side crap). it has more flaws than positives. a real reviewer who actually played the franchise from the start would have gave it a score in the high 7's low 8's. i dont know how gamers will say that treyarch next is worst than mw2 with a straight face. they will own iw in every way. w@w is a better game for the simple fact it tried something new unlike this game. also 90% of the maps are horrible.

every day i npend with this game i almost cant believe IW made it.....really the guys who made 2 and 4????nah!!!

Reviewers get paid by advertisers. Big game companies are advertisers. Reviewers get free gamers from game companies. If advertising game companies don't like the reviews because, they put a strangle hold on the reviewer. I'm sure if you search around enough you can find enough cases of reviews being pulled because the company doesn't like the review.

Reviewers make good reviews by the companies that pay them. This is why some companies don't get as favorable reviews. They don't pay enough or/and the reviewer just doesn't spend as much time. There are of course where games are just bad and theirs little a reviewer can do about it.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

World at War tried something new? Wasn't that the game that reverted back to the same war as the first three after Infinity Ward had completely upended the series by bringing it into modern day warfare? Seems to me you have it backwards.

I will not dispute you on this as I have not got a great knowledge on the film industry and have no reason to doubt you so I surrender on that one.

I think I was more or less making the point that they have become like hollywood blockbusters.

I maybe sidetracked a bit by generalising.
