Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Madworld : Good sells in Japan ?

Madworld will be avalaible in February to Japan...

Normally this type of game must not have succes on Japon "Island".

But if you look this link to amazon Japan, you can see what the game is already into the TOP 50.

Really a surprise for me...

this type of game doesn't really sell well in japan, if they really thought it would do ok in Japan they wouldn't have waited so long to release it.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

it won't sell more than NA numbers that's for sure.

After all these Japanese themed games like Muramasa and Okami flopped in Japan, maybe a western tuned violence machine will sell really well?.. Any boost in sales is good though. I wanna see a prequel made telling the story of the Black Baron. So sweet that would be..

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

its going to japan? awesome, about time they get to play the game

Maybe the success of Bayonetta has something to do with this, both these games are from Platinum Games. Aside from that Bayonetta designer Hideki Kamiya also made Okami, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe and Resident Evil 2.

I am sad the Japanese market is actually going to get this repetitive hunk of glorified junk. Honestly it is one of the most repetitive titles I've played in an awful long time. The gore is all it has going for it and sure it will sell do to shock if it sells at all. I think Sega is just grasping at straws to make a bad came profitable. Knowing Sega they probubly lost money on MadWorld and are seeking to make that money back!

Okami actually did okay in Japan for a 3 year old port (around a 20k debut). Sold in line with the Wii versions of REmake/RE0, and it's held up almost 5k for the 2 weeks after.  I bet it finishes around 50k, though it could get another bump when Okamiden launches too.

Muramasa didn't flop either when put in context, though it wasn't a huge success.  It was Vanillaware's 2nd best selling game ever (about 25k 1st week, better than the ltd of any of their games besides Odin Sphere) and moved around 40-50k total probably (about half what OS did).

On topic though, MadWorld is going to tank.  Z-rating, tiny publisher (Spike), western focused, niche genre... maybe it'll get some attention being from Platinum (coming off Bayonetta's success) but I don't expect much for it (5-10k 1st week, <25k lifetime)
