Forums - General Discussion - I saw 28 Weeks Later last night

I loved the first one and I liked the second one, but 28 Weeks miss the feeling of being alone. The characters are not really interesting compared to 28 Days, there is less place for emotions or discussion between them to give them an interesting profile. It is more based on special effects, while the first one's effect were made by the sequence editing (gaz station explosion !!!!). It feels like it's only a sequel with more budget and a lot of american producer with an hollywoodian mentality. Even the music did not live to the expectation, it's only a repeat of the last music in the first one, except that they pass it many times this time.

It feels just like if it was a sequel to make a sequel. 28 Weeks did not have the same esthetic has 28 Days, except for the 15 first minutes, the rest is only a typical zombie movie just like any other horror movie in this expanding market.

I didn't mean that The Quiet Earth would be a zombie movie, rather a movie capturing that great "everybody just died and left me alone on the Earth" feeling I got from the first few minutes of 28 Days.

Yeah I know what you meant. It is rare to see someone else post about "the Quiet Earth". The beggining had a lot of shots very similiar to The Quiet Earth where he is running around an empty city.

the first 10-15 minutes were the best in a zombie movie ever, then the movie went downhill

I agree with that completely.  I don't think it's nearly as good as days.  For some reason after the movie I just felt like it was a 2hr introduction to the next one.  Like it was not really heartfelt just there to get us off the island.  A sort of go between or connector piece between the 1st and 3rd installments.  I hope the next in the series is more like the first.

what????? 28 weks later is way better than days. to me it is way more scary, realistic, and gruesome. also weeks gave me a sense that the world was over and that i was only person left along with the few survivors and it gave me a feeling of clausthrophobia. that movie rocked and it is so scary. best horror movie since the ring since nowadays horror movies are garbage. also my 3 favorite movie of the year so far.

Am I the only one who finds that statement pretty funny?

You're definitely not the only one ^^  That sentence is all kinds of funny

I haven't seen The Quiet Earth but whenever I think of last man on Earth scenario I think of the movie The Omega Man based on the book I Am Legend, which I think has another movie based on it and starring Will Smith coming out in December.

Same here.  My wife and I get urges to re-watch Omega Man every now and then.  And I thought I am Legend looked to be a remake of Omega Man.  I didn't realize that Omega Man was based of a book titled I am Legend.

28 Days Later is one of my favorite zombie movies...Weeks is definitely much lower on the list.

I'm not sure what my number 1 is though...I always come back to both Shaun of the Dead and Dawn of the Dead though...Shaun for its humor and Dawn for its classic zombie scenario done right.

Dawn of the Dead (the remake) is the best zombie movie ever! 28 Days is one of the best too.

28 Weeks Later was disappointing to me. I find a movie much better when the characters in it are intelligent, and are in danger or challenged, even though they act intelligently. When the characters (or Army) are flat out dumb or incompetent, it ruins the movie for me. I can't identify with them or feel too sorry for them if they make obvious bad decisions.

Now, I don't think that dumb people being in a movie makes it unrealistic, like some critics like to say. There are plenty of dumb people in the world.

Off Topic: After seeing enough horror movies. My friends and I agreed that if we ever find ourselves in a horror movie situation, we are going to proactively kill the dumbest person in our group. Because inevitably, they are going to die anyway, and take several of us with them in their bad decision making. So why not save a few lives and kill the dumb one right away, heh. (We are not being serious. At least I don't think, heh)

You all are forgetting the movie Last Man on Earth, with Vincent Price. Also based on I Am Legend. Charlton Heston in the Omega Man is great though. By the way proactively killing the dumbest one in the group BEFORE the zombies come is friggin genius. Lucky for me all my friends are idiots.

I have that movie actually.  Last Man on Earth.  I think I slightly like it better than Omega Man.  Hehe, thanks for the compliment as well.
