Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft getting owned outside of gaming too

Google announced this because of the success of Bing. It is a great engine and has some nice features. The image and video searches in particular are great.

I'm thinking about making it my homepage, actually.

It is clear that Microsoft will lose this generation for gaming systems (at least from the standpoint of Hardware units sold) but it also looks like they will lose the search engine war before it even really begins.

Incase you have been living under a rock recently, Microsoft just launched "Bing" its new search engine which is a significantly better search engine than Windows Live. It has been said that Bing is almost as good as google. I thought it would be tough to get people to switch from Google to Bing when the products were similar, but Google just upped the competition by announcing "Caffine", their new search engine architecture.

I couldn't see Bing successfully dethrowning Google before, but with "Caffine" which is significantly better than Google previous engine, Microsoft has no chance.

Google Caffine Article

Anyone disagree and think Microsoft will prevail? Cough cough Zune... cough

They're better off with software alone. Since they entered the hardware industry and released the xbox 360 and the epic fail zune there've been some hardware difficulties, be it the red lights and the zune's timed memory wipe out.

Your biased fanboyism is always appreciated.

I mean come on, if you count all the RRoD'd 360s that didn't get replaced, there's only like 26 million 360s out there! /sarcasm

There's nothing biased or fanboyism about my comments against microsoft. I was just being completely honest. If you don't see the hardware difficulties that microsoft has put up, thus scewing up consumers by them spending money on products that don't work, be it the zune and the xbox 360 (I'm aware that it doesn't always happen to all xbox 360 consoles bought, but still does), then you better open your eyes.

Oh, just to tell you that I'm not always entirely anti-xbox. I have yet to own an xbox 360 for some exclusives, like gears of war 2. But it's difficult for me to figure out how I can own one without having to pay a monopoly for an xbox 360 console.

^Thanks for proving my point

second it's still being loser.

as in a race.

profits another story, but microsoft profits comes from their OS/office.

Being in 2nd feels so much better than being in 3rd

Bing is rather cool, to be honest. I also like their commercials, of how a search can go way wrong. Although honestly, I haven't encountered that kind of issue in a search engine in like forever, I still find the commercial funny. And while I don't think they can 'dethrone' Google just yet, competition is everything. And I heard Google went into freak out mode when they saw what Bing did. So if MS put Google on alert for once, and forced them to bring more to the table, so much the better.

What is wrong with the Zune hardware?(Besides the terrible aesthetics). I have had my 30GB for a hell of a long time and have no complaints what so ever, and I use the hell out of that thing. Zune software is great as well. Now that the Zune has a great redesign(Zune HD looks fantastic), I don't really see why it should not be a success.

Agreed.  I'll more than likely be getting one of those ZuneHD's when they come out

Since when is 2nd place = losing? They are beating Yahoo and every other search engine besides Google. They are beating every console besides the Wii. 2nd place does not mean they are the losers.....

A distant second place is certainly losing, especially when you've failed to make any money overall.

The only system that the 360 has managed to outsell all generation is another poorly selling system(the PS3), so that doesn't really make a good case for it.

Their search engine is far behind Google, and the Zune doesn't pose any more of a threat to the iPod than any other portable media player, second place or not.

I'm just saying this person writing the article is being an overly dramatic MS hater.  If you look at all the other competitors in these markets, MS is winning compared to all of them.  The articles written for those corporations would look much, much worse.
