Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft and Bungie Studios to Evolve Relationship (Press Release)

Bungie:

"Bungie has long been built on creativity, originality and the freedom to pursue ideas. Microsoft agreed, and rather than stifle our imagination, they decided it was in both our best interests to unleash it. We’ll continue to make Xbox 360 games, and we’ll continue to make amazing games for MGS. In that regard, nothing has changed. All that has changed is that now Bungie Studios is once again, the property of the folks of Bungie Studios. Microsoft is and will continue to be, a brilliant, inventive and creatively collaborative publishing partner. Practically speaking, nothing has changed and you guys won’t see much, if any difference, for a while unless you come to work for us, that is..."

So Xbox 360 games, published by Microsoft Game Studios.

Nothing has changed, you won't see any difference...for a while??

What happens after a while?

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

So it's nice that they'll probably be pumping out DS games for sure now, and also very likely Wii games. I'd suspect they will be porting any non-halo 360 games to the PS3.

Marketing speak is great, isn't it? :D

published by MGS? i dont think so. For DS its possible (want money) but ps3? MGS wouldnt allow it, at least for a while like bungie says

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

I guess Microsoft probably realized no more Halo games would be coming out... so why keep bungie?

To me, my idea on what's going on is this:

Bungie is suck & tired of making the same game (Halo) for the past 7 years. They want to go their own way, and make their own games - win or loose.

Microsoft probably prefers them making said 10m+ seller game forever, but obviously, its better if they have quality from Bungie.

Bungie will probably stay with MS exclusively for hardware, as the Xbox 360 is alll they know. Not only this, Bungie has enough developer-clout on the X360 to sell alot of games regardless of what they want.

So it's a win-win. MS keeps Halo, Bungie gets to make their own unique games on X360. I'm glad for Bungie, as I want some new exclusives, and not just Halo500.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
