Forums - PC Discussion - Tales of Monkey Island: Launch of Screaming Narwhal mini-review

Pros:  Its a New Monkey Island, good voice acting, pretty good script, popculture references and series in jokes were nice, music was pleasant, nice cliffhanger ending

Cons: Controls and camera detracted from the experience, creepy french doctor, difficulty scaled down from previous games

Overall I have to say this was a good return for the series, but I have to say I was disappointed with the drag to move mouse controls for the game, ended up using the diretion keeys on the keyboard to move Guybrush, Camera tended to get stuck in odd positions at time making it hard to hit the hotspots, especially annoying on the ships with the up and down movement.  French doctor was creepy, especially the last idol puzzle *shudders*.  Also I noticed the game was a lot easier than the previous games in the series, I really only had trouble with a couple of the puzzles, and even then it was because I hadn't picked up the needed item yet, hopefully the later chapters will be a little more difficult.  Cliffhanger ending was a very nice touch, can't wait for chapter 2.

I'd give it an 8-8.5 out of 10

I didn't find the game too easy, in fact I think it could be too hard for beginners at times. I agree that the controls could have been better.

The first episode is a very good and promising start. I liked the inside jokes ("You fight like a..."), but at the same time I was glad that there weren't too many of them.

Excellent puzzle design: Escape from De Singe's laboratory.

Perhaps you have gotten smarter with age. The old ones weren't difficult either.
