Forums - General Discussion - Wrestling Star Mitsuharu Misawa passes away

I guess many of you didn't knew him, but I think this deserves an own thread...

Japanese wrestling legend and Pro Wrestling NOAH owner Mitsuharu Misawa has passed away today after a terrible accident during a show in Hiroshima. He would have turned 47 on thursday.

"Mitsuharu Misawa died on Saturday night after suffering an apparent heart attack after taking a backdrop during a tag team match in Hiroshima, Japan, according to the Wrestling Observer website. The story notes that he took what was described as a routine back suplex from Akitoshi Saito and did not get up. They attempted to perform CPR, but his heart stopped beating in the ring." (WrestlingObserver)

He was Japan's greatest pro wrestling star of the 90s and many people (including me) consider him to be the best Wrestler of all time. No other wrestler in history has received as many WrestlingObserver 5-Star Match awards as he did. He won the prestigious AJPW Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship 5 times and was also a 3 times GHC Heavyweight Champion in Pro Wrestling NOAH.

It is a terrible loss for everyone who enjoys wrestling.

Chris Hero, who was at the show had some very emotional words to say:

"Words cannot express how deeply shocked I am. We're all just in utter disbelief. Stunned sadness. The moments at ringside felt an eternity. Never, in my life, have I wanted the fighting spirit to jump into someone's being more than I wanted tonight. The fans chanted Misawa, Misawa, Misawa.
They wanted their Hero to get up so f***ing bad. Just get up. Come on! You're too tough for this. Too strong. I grabbed his boots and held onto them til they took him away.
"

I hope his family and friends will be able to cope up with this loss.

May he rest in peace
