Forums - Sales Discussion - How important is it to you PS3 beats 360 in console sales war?

For me it's important that at least 2 companies remain in the market. Sony has games for everyone as is widely known. Nintendo must remain for all the kids in this world.

If i had to chose, i'de say let Microsoft just drop out! They offer nothing special neither will they be missed. The Xbox360 is a deffective console and Xboxlive is trying to set up a dangerous trend, which is pay to play online.

Yes I'm sure the 32million Xbox 360 owners won't care about Microsoft dropping out of the console business and I'm sure they would love there now discontinued console even more. Way to think about nobody but yourself...

And Microsoft have bought plenty to gaming..

Well when Xbox1 got discontinued, 25 million had to buy something else, so i don't know why now it should be any different.

''And Microsoft have brought plenty to gaming.." Yes you are right sire, let's name a few: RROD, insanely high failure rates, fees to play online, oh yeah and expansionspacks that sell for full price. Wow they sure have contributed to the gaming world!

Don't care. Although if they came last it would teach them a lesson for trying to flog a console for $600.00

ill be real, im a xbox fan turned sony fan when my xbox 360 kept getting RROD and microsoft wanted me to pay $150 to repair it.Reports from an Microsoft employee suggest they knew about the RROD problem and released the faulty machine anyway. So since than ive hoped microsoft would curl up in a corner and die.

It's probably not going to happen that PS3 beats 360, but I do hope Sony can close that gap. As of present moment (not going back to 2006), Sony's first party seems to be doing the most for the gaming generation, even if they can't market their developments.

Also, I'm pretty much convince I will not buy an Xbox console again unless they have a good slate of 1st party jRPG titles (like Mistwalker, which seems all but dumped like many of their studios). As for third party jRPGs, I don't want to be a beta-tester again like with ToV and SO4.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

The September 2009 sales clearly indicate PS3 is heavily outselling the XBox 360 and that trend is guaranteed to continue. The PS3 will never be outsold by the XBox 360 in worldwide weekly console sales ever again.
Sony has won the HD format battle with Blu-Ray and the PS3 will crush the XBox 360 in life time console sales.

Doesn't matter at all. Seriously, it shouldn't matter to anybody in this thread. These are both billion dollar corporations. Why should I care which one of them comes SECOND to Nintendo? I will say this: I always expected PS3 to outsell 360. I thought it would, but I honestly didn't give a shit if it did or not. As it turns out, I was completely wrong. Oh well.

It is redicolous to see people use this thread as a way to bash the console they don't like. Seriously VGC'erz, grow the fuck up.

Ronster, I understand your frustration about Sega, but don't you think it's about time you let go? In the world of business, this kind of shit happens all the time. In fact, if Sony didn't destroy Sega, MS likely would have.

It's not important... it's fun to see how each company reacts to each other, and how they try to read the markets around the world though.

from a consumer -me- point of view the best scenario would be a hard fight between both ending in a draw. it seems like we are on the way to it so i'm happy.

Reasonable point of view. Personally, to feel more tranquil, I'd like Nintendo to win, to avoid Sony becomes arrogant again, but by a smaller margin than now, so that it doesn't become arrogant in its turn, and MS to arrive third, but by a small gap behind Sony, this would give three benefits, it would keep both MS and Sony under pressure to give better products, as you imply, but it would prevent MS from doing what it's used to do if it becomes market leader and it would teach it that it can profit even without crushing the competition.

My ideal end of generation scenario is

Wii ~41%  PS3 ~32% XB360 ~27%
