Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Halo 3's Success Due To Lack of Xbox 360 Exclusives

Boutros said:

In the gaming world, there has been a recent trend of a certain console manufacturers (who would remain namelss) fanboys that would claim that Halo 3's success is due to the fact that it's the greatest thing since Square ditched Nintendo's cartridge based platform to make games on C.D for Sony back in '95'.and constantly compare its sales without any incite to that of PS3 exclusive titles.   "With out any incite you say"

Halo 3 IS a very successful game, but what other 'AAA' exclusive titles on the Xbox 360 platform does it have to contend with. Gears i hear you scream, and for all you people who screamed Gears ... you're correct (and also stop shouting in the back while reading this) but apart from that what else is there, fable 2 and left 4 dead both did well, sales wise but they hardly set the gaming world alight... who's really talking about them now. the only thing that sparked any major interest in left 4 dead was the rumor of it coming to the PS3, apart from that the games pretty much yesterdays news as the position on the Xbox most played charts always shows.

if you had been counting, thats only two quality 'AAA' exclusives for the Xbox. Viva Pinata, Banjo kazooee: Nuts and Bolts, Too Human, Perfect Dark, Ninety-Nine Nights are all flops, or mediocre titles at best, and this is not fanboism, this is fact. i can't imagine most Xbox 360 owners are hankering for Kameo 2:deli of fate.

Now for the incite part:

So lets consider the amount of 'AAA' exclusive titles for the PS3 (for the sake of fanboys out there, we'll only list the ones that has sold over a million) we have MGS4, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, LBP, Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm, Killzone 2.

Now using incite if there are only 2 'AAA' exclusive titles on the Xbox , you can expect them to have a higher sales rate because of their fewer number, where compared to the PS3 and remember we are only talking about the million and above sellers, not all of the exclusive titles has a broader range of titles to choose from, so you can expect sales to be spread across different titles. Look at it this way, Killzone 2 has been released, and inFamous, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, White Knight Chronicles, and M.A.G are all coming exclusively to the PS3, This Year.

Now compare that (the quantity not the quality) to the 2 games that Microsoft is going to announce for the Xbox, this year at E3.

You disclude Fable 2 and Left 4 Dead as AAA titles saying they hardly set the gaming world alight but include Heavenly Sword and Motorstorm (and to a lesser extent Resistance) as AAA PS3 exclusives... I'm not saying those PS3 exclusives aren't AAA but surely you can see why this is a bit of a skewed view for anyone reading. I'd then also include NG2, Fable 2, PGR series, and Viva Pinata for the 360 and Gran Turismo, Ratchet and Clank and more games for the PS3 as well.

I think the entire article is skewed severely just to prove a point which is non-existent. Both platforms have a lot of great exclusives and I don't think that the success of Halo 3 can be accredited to there being a lack of exclusives on the 360. From the list above, both platforms have great exclusives that appeal to different types of gamers. If anything, Halo 3's success is against the odds with other amazing FPS's to come out on both consoles, both exclusive and multiplatform.

Edit: By "you" I'm referring to the author of the article. I don't want to cause any confusion or wrongly point fingers. :)

That lady don't know shit. First off Fable is a big franchise for Microsoft as is Gears and Halo. Secondly Perfect Dark Zero is a platinum title and if they make Perfect Dark 2 you can bet your bottom dollar it will do very well. Viva Pinata did just fine breaking more than a million in sales on a system not known for family friendly titles.

Too Human did ok at around almost 600 thousand in sales and the same goes for Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts neither of those are flops. Just because a game does not hit platinum status of 1 million in sales doesn't mean it is terrible. Plenty of games don't make it to Gold status of 500,000 in sales or more.

Being a AAA title does not mean millions + millions in sales. It is really no more than a matter of a opinion. Halo is big because of it's community that is it. It has nothing to do with exclusives! News flash... Xbox 360 has more exclusives overall than PS3.

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

Lol, exactly, 1337 Gamer. Halo 3 sold well because Halo and Halo 2 sold well.

Also, if this person would have taken 2 seconds she could have found much more games that are AAA and above 1 million sales on the 360.

Boutros, if you think this "opinion" is needed, I pity you. This is a fanboy rant blog with all the flawed logic in the world (as fanboys always do), and yet you felt her opinion was new and something we needed to see?

I find the opinion interesting as well considering its fueled by fanboy retardation. It is quite humorous, but completely unoriginal and not necessary. Try better next time.

Well if that article made you laugh, it's ok. My goal was not to create any frustration from people like you. Also, I don't understand why you say that this article comes from a fanboy. If you don't agree with that opinion it's ok but don't get mad because of it. I will also try better next time for whatever that means.

People are, like usual, taking those kinds of articles in the wrong way. It's just a way of seeing things, just an opinion. I'm not saying that Halo 3 is bad game or anything...I actually played it a little with a friend and I enjoyed it.

Get over it, PS3 fanboys.

BTW I'm am in no way a fanboy of any console and I really don't understand what makes you think so. I am not the one who wrote the article but I thought the opinion was interesting.

Don't worry, you are only the 378th troll to use that excuse.

As pswii360 said, it's the accepted form of trolling in this forum.

An excuse for what?

Yeah, no, the author clearly hasn't done their homework. Since the article is about Halo SALES I assume they are using sales as the barometer so lets take a look at the real list of +1 million exclusive sellers for both platforms:

Xbox 360:

Halo 3 - 9.56m
Gears 1 - 5.88m
Gears 2 - 4.84m
Forza 2 - 3.98m
Fable 2 - 2.72m
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter - 2.24m
*Bioshock - 2.16m
Left 4 Dead - 2.13m
Mass Effect - 2.04m
Saints Row - 1.94m
*Lost Planet: Extreme Condition - 1.76m
PGR4 - 1.68m
Dead Rising - 1.65m
Crackdown - 1.49m
PGR3 - 1.39m
Perfect Dark Zero - 1.29m
Halo Wars - 1.15m
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent - 1.14m
Dead Or Alive 4 - 1.01m

* (Game is no longer exclusive but since the PS3 version was in both cases over a year later the vast majority of the 360 sales were while it was exclusive and a PS3 version had yet to be announced)

PS3

MGS4 - 3.92m
Resistance - 3.59m
Motorstorm - 3.48m
Uncharted - 2.33m
LBP - 2.19m
Resistance 2 - 1.58m
KZ 2 - 1.46m

Heavenly Sword 1.36m

I don't think the author has a point. Sorry.

I believe I explained what made it a fanboy article.  Do you really not get this impression when reading the article?

She is uneducated on 360 software, completely biased, and disregards all other possible answers for Halo 3's success such as, you know, Halo and Halo 2.

By the way, I'm not mad at all, but I do question your real intent on posting something even a blind man could see is flamebait.  I also find it humorous that your "goal was not to create any frustration," yet immediately assume my response was in anger?  Hmmmm....

Uh... trolling.  Why does a "troll" use that excuse?  To hide his trolling.

Nightsurge is right though. That gal obviously knew a lot about Sony's big games but hardly jack crap about Microsoft's. I would love to see a PS3 game sell near that of Halo 3. Only Sony fanboys would say those are the only AA game's Microsoft has simply because the sales are so huge on both. Fable 2 has sales in line with Resistance and Killzone 2 so if it's not a AAA game for Microsoft neither are those games to Sony. BTW Forza can also be included in AAA Microsoft games along with the Project Gotham Racing series. Most people I know even agree that Forza is better than Gran Turismo. I could go on with comparisons for hours just showing how fanboyish that article was.

Maybe the author of the article is what you call a fanboy. I don't know her and I don't care. The thing is that I placed this thread in the Microsoft Discussion. If my goal was to blast Halo 3, I would have chose another forum entry. You have to understand that it is possible to have an opinion of something even though you are not what you call a fanboy.
