Forums - General Discussion - Are you into Paintball? You have to check this out..

*edit*  Ok, so I do know how to embed..nifty!

This is probably the single-most amazing thing I've ever seen relating to paintball.  At the price tag of only $150 USD, I'm seriously considering trying it out.  What is it, you say?

It's The Sentry Project.  Or, to break it down, it's a fully Autonomous Sentry Turret for paintball.

There are a few videos the developer of this amazing turret has provided

What do you guys think?  Is this not amazing?  Imagine a fire-fight Killzone 2 style where you just set up a turret and flank around behind someone who still thinks they're shooting it out with you.  The possibilities are endless - imagine setting it up outside your house!  I'd like to set it up in my backyard while my parents are gone one day..we have a lot of bird feeders, watching a turret go crazy firing at 50 birds would be hilarious.  HILARIOUS!

Thoughts?  Are you into paintball??  Discuss!

Around the Network

Also notice the GUI for the program that runs this turret (shown in a few of the videos) has a target list with a scroll bar. There are only 4 targets you can see - but it may surprise you...just what was this built for??=P

Bicyclist (I could have fun with this..but wow)
Enemy Jet (wow2?)
Everything
Jeep (wow3??)

thats prttey cool

Very old. The sentry project started ~2 years ago. It's very neat, but unusable unless you play scenario 'ball that would allow such a device.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Didn't know it was that old, but I know he's still working on it...I'm pretty sure the 9th revision is pretty recent.  I've only started getting into paintball the past 2 years, so it took a while before I got into it enough (and knew I'd stay into it) to find something like this.

And it's not unusable - at least I don't think.  We're fairly creative, and all of us who play (roughly 10 of us) are heavy into FPS types of games.  We could definitely find use for it, as we're very open to even scenario type games.  I do see your point, however, as it's a little limited.  Something like this, I'd get more for the enjoyment of playing around with it.  And the price for it, at least I think, is very reasonable.  I really expected a couple hundred anyway.  If I ever do get it, I'll definitely have to let you know how it went.
