Forums - PC Discussion - Final Fantasy 7 PC problems

Recently I dusted off my copy of FF7 for the PC so I could play the game again. After installing the full game onto my Windows XP operating system I was able to access the main menu, and then proceed to pick new game and watch the opening cinematic. After watching Biggs and Jesse nail the two shinra guards at the train station Barrett jumps off and asks the newcomer how he is doing, I attempt to press all of the buttons I can but I cannot get past this speech bubble. Has anyone experienced any PC control issues with FF7 on XP?

lol, I recently dusted mine off too. It's rather funny, the last time I played that game on the PC was on an old dell with Windows 98 around nine years ago lol. I got it as a birthday gift.

The default controls use the number pad on the right side of the keyboard. Are you using a laptop who's keyboard lacks the number pad?

I believe there's an official update for that if that's your problem. However, there are issues with the game that are XP related and will result in crashes at a certain point in the game which will require mods to get by.

yes you need to change the keys. It is controlled by the numpad. If you use a laptop there should be a function button you can press and the numpad is one the rightside of homerow. From there you can access the menu and change the buttons to whatever you want.

If that doesn't work, just plug in a xbox360 controller or ps3 sixaxis and that should work.

Fact: Earthbound is the greatest game ever made

It sucks that you can't remap the controls until you get control of Cloud and can access the config menu. The default for the menu is the + key on the number pad.

As for controllers, I don't know how the 360 one is, but my PS3 controller doesn't work 100% with FFVII. I think that perhaps the game is trying to read it as a joystick instead of a regular controller, but the right analog stick (though R3 and L3 works), L1, R1, Square, Triangle, X, and Circle can't be mapped.

Its fun just to watch the videos from the CD. Download the Bink codec to play them.
