Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii to change price.....upwards!!!

The price of a Wii in Canada is higher now than when I bought it a year and a half(?) ago, although not significantly. This is due to the Canadian Dollar dropping in value a bit since then. So it's not totally unheard of.

Consoles Owned: Atari 2600, NES, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64, Gamecube, Wii, XBOX360

Today, 1 British pound will buy you 135 yen.

Two years ago, it would have bought 230 yen.

Nintendo isn't doing this because they want to. Currency fluctuations really have wiped out their profit margin on UK Wii sales.

It looks like they are planning to increase the software prices as well:

Nintendo has not ruled out a rise in prices for new software releases in the UK, due to the depreciation of the pound.

I saw this on gamasutra, makes you wonder just how bad the Pound is doing if NINTENDO has to raise their price to remain profitable.

...You've GOT to wonder if the other competitors are willing to continue to bite the bullet or will raise their price abit as well.

I think, they were still profitable, and it was only the lack of a proper reason that stopped them from raising it's prices earlier, to meet the demand.

nintendo getting greedy

this will probaly mean more people buying 360s in the uk

The Wii can be bought under RRP anyway, so this will probably just push it back to the standard £179.99.

Eg:
£164.98 at dvd.co.uk
£166.37 at shopto.net

This makes absolutely no sense. The Wii hasn't received a single price cut since it released a couple years ago. So production costs have not dropped AT ALL after all this time... Come on Nintendo, how much money do you honestly want?

It's all about the game.

Talk about screwing the fans over ......
