So Microsoft made a billion dollars on XBL marketplace?

Forums - Microsoft Discussion - So Microsoft made a billion dollars on XBL marketplace?

With over 300 arcade games to choose from and the awesome games that came out in summer 2008 its no suprise that XBL and XBLA in general are money making machines.

Three gaming companies i will respect forever............. SEGA, Capcom, Nintendo.

My gaming HERO= Yu Suzuki (The father of Shenmue, Virtua fighter, he's also an arcade/3D gaming PIONEER)

Proud member of the Sonic Support Squad. (not that he needs it anymore after Unleashed, Generations & All-Stars Racing)

Sorry I am late to the party and didn't read though the 5 pages of comments, but while it was stated that XBL gross intake was more than 1 billion, it is suggested that MS probably only sees half that in net income. Everything from taxes, hosting services, power and cooling for servers, internet bandwidth, music/movie/game royalties and developer payouts is deducted from that 1 billion. So while 1 billion is an impressive number, the final result isn't quite that impressive. The OP says there was no spin, well you're wrong.

Bethesda's Todd Howard "if install base really mattered, we'd all make board games, because there are a lot of tables."

Feel free to add me ...

Yeah, imagine if they didn't have subscription fees and such to offset these costs.

The article doesn't mention how much MS made from XBLA. It does mention the revenue, though.
